Ugh the nausea!!

Nausea before I eat, nausea while I eat, nausea after I eat.
How will I survive?
I didn't get nausea until the end of the second trimester with my son, and the sea bands sort of helped... But this pregnancy I'm nauseous all the time...
Help?
Suggestions?
I tried crackers... Didn't help. Tried ginger ale and the carbonation made my heartburn worse...

Re: Ugh the nausea!!

  • I'm having the same problem. My first pregnancy was just nausea in the morning. But this second time around.. oh my gosh. I feel like im about to throw up throughout the entire day! I've tried crackers and light snacks here and there but doesn't really help. I read somewhere to try putting your favorite Gatorade in an ice cube tray and suck on them whenever you need.

Best of luck to you! And congrats!

  • I've always disliked Gatorade, maybe I'll try ice cubes. XD Best of luck to you too!
  • I found with my first pregnancy that jolly ranchers were the only thing that helped, specifically the cherry and grape flavors. I don't know why they helped, I was just glad they did. Good luck!
  • I LOVE JOLLY RANCHERS!! OMG I'm going to get some right now. That's such a good idea.
  • I'n gonna try Jolly Ranchers!!
  • Me too. I am starting to feel nauseous while eating, which is new. But I feel sick before I eat, too!  :(
  • I feel so sick all day long! Luckily I've only actually gotten sick one time. It is so difficult to make it through the day! It's literally all I can think about. I'm so trying the Jolly Ranchers. Thanks for the tip. If it doesn't start to improve I'm going to try the Sea Band out. Good luck ladies... I feel your pain!
  • I find that if I force myself to eat cereal or oatmeal right when I get up, and then keep it down, I usually start to feel better within a couple of hours. I then force myself to eat a granola bar or string cheese to keep my stomach from getting empty and my blood sugar from dropping. If I throw up breakfast or don't make myself eat, then I feel like the nausea sticks with me most of the day. Also, on weekends or days that DD is at mom's day out it is soooo tempting to stay on the couch or in bed, but I find that that makes me feel worse. So, basically the two things I don't want to do when I'm nauseated: eat & move, seem to help the most.

  • Hey ladies, I'm new to the BMB and haven't intro'd yet. I thought I would pass along some advice that the nurse gave me at my last appointment. I have been having MS all day long. She said eat carbs in the morning for breakfast. Throughout the day snack on things that are high in protein like nuts, greek yogurt, protein bars, boiled eggs. It has seemed to help some. You could also ask if your doctors office has any samples of Diclegis you could try. Hope you all find some relief soon!!
  • I hope the jolly ranchers help all you ladies! It's worth a shot at least. Nausea sucks!

I've been sucking on the preggie pop drops.  I picked them up at Toy's R Us/Babies R Us and they seem to be doing the trick for now.     https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3029075&camp=PLAPPCG-_-PID4527613:BRUS&cagpspn=plab_4527613&eESource=CAPLA_DF:3029075:TRUS
  • I second (third, fourth?) Jolly Ranchers. I find that sour patch kids help too.
  • I think I might have to go get some Jolly Ranchers and maybe some sour patch kids for good measure

  • XD I hate sour patch kids, but I'm gonna go get the Jolly Ranchers.
  • Funny!! i was looking to buy some Cherry/Apple lifesavers monday after work because they seemed to help me w MS. But all Target had was Jolly Ranchers. I bought some and they really have been helping me!!! *PRAISE THE ALL MIGHTY JOLLY RANCHER* Cherry and Apple work best for me.
  • Jolly Ranchers helped during my first pregnancy, but haven't bought any yet this time since MS just kicked in a couple days ago. And I second the preggie pop drops. They were also very helpful to me.

  • Peppermint gum has been working good for me this week.
  • Right there with you! Ive been taking vitamin B supps and also drinking juice and eating a piece of graham cracker the second I get out of bed. The seabands were working for a while but my DS took one off my wrist and I cant find it anywhere.  Whaaaaa :'(:'(:'( I found some ginger candies to suck on that help too, but don't taste great. Im jumping on the jolly rancher train fo sho!

  • I'm doing the Gatorade now and it helps
  • I am definitely going to try the Jolly Ranchers! @TheTamedShrew I feel the absolute worst when I'm "relaxing"! I hate it! I feel best when I'm up and about, even though I feel so incredibly exhausted.
  • I have been having a lot of nausea this week and last few days I have taken a different approach.

I have eaten some toast first thing in the morning....before I do anything else, I was waiting until about an hour after I got up but by then i already felt sick. I also found that if I get up and move around or go for a walk it is much better. Days were I have sat or laid down the most are the day I have felt the worse.

  • Hard Jolly Ranchers. It is something about the sourness.
  • Jollyranchers? Another excuse to eat candy. I'll take it!
  • I've been all about the preggie pop drops as well with flat ginger ale and fig newtons. You can get them on amazon too or buybuybaby stores. Good luck everyone!
  • I picked up a giant bag of sour patch kids today!
  • Sour worked for me 1st time round....sour patch kids, lemonade. Also coke instead of ginger ale
  • Nausea is the worst. To battle mine I have done several things that worked.
    - switch the time you take your prenatal. I switched last pregnancy to first thing and it helped alot.
    - switch you prenatal period. DHA prenatals made me feel worse..I take Rainbow light now.
    - ginger candy. Lot of Asian markets have hard or chewy ginger candy. Really good for the tummy.
    - raw ginger..either make a tea or chew it raw..this was only drastic times.
    - eat every 2-3 hours. Healthy snacks in between meals. I get hungry I got nauseated.
    - eat a snack when you get up. Have something next to the bed to nibbe on before getting up. I had graham crackers or fruit.
    - jolly ranchers worked in my 2nd trimester.

    Good luck!!!
  • Popsicles and Jolly Ranchers seem to help me. Also it helps to eat smaller, one-component meals as opposed to a full meal made up of different things.

Okay, now I'll have to try Jolly Ranchers. Oranges/clementines really help for me. I've also found kalamata olives help a bit because they're so salty.

I take half a unisom before bed. I know some people also take B6 with it, but I can't due to a completely separate medical issue. The unisom seems to cut down on the nausea. I also wear acupressure bands (like seabands). I still feel nauseous for a good part of the day, but it's not terrible and I'm not throwing up, haha.

My last pregnancy, coke and lemonade or slushies were my go-to in the mornings. Again, I can't have that now, but you might try something like that. If not, peppermints maybe?

Also, if you have any essential oils, I use a blend of ginger, peppermint and lemon. I mix it with a carrier oil and dab it on my wrists, or under my nose when I'm feeling bad.

  • Thanks for the tips, ladies. I seem to be having problems with warm/hot food. I'm nauseated most of the time I'm around food UNLESS it is cold/room temperature. I think I'm going to keep to carrot sticks and guacamole for now.

I didn't have this at all with my DD (now 3.5 yrs).
  • Ugh - sorry that we are all going through this, but it's nice to have random internet people to complain too!! I have been gagging so bad in the mornings and it causes me to cough a lot. I've been coughing and gagging so violently that I injured my rib cage on both sides. It feels like Ive been beat up :( Even turning the steering wheel while driving or sneezing is giving me so much pain)
