Babies: 9 - 12 Months

feeding help needed

hi everyone! my son is a big boy. he is 10 month old, about 27 lbs and 29". I dont overfeed him but since I am really trying not to, sometimes it feel like I don't give him enough. how much do your babies weigh and how much do you feed them?

Re: feeding help needed

  • What does the Pedi say? That's who you should listen to. If he's following the growth curve then no need to worry! He's getting closer to a year old so by now he should be on 2-3 meals a day and a snack or 2. Let him dictate how much he wants or needs because although he's almost one, his nutrition should still come from formula or BM (as I'm sure you already know!).

My DD is 15 months old and weighs 23 pounds!

  • Last time I took DS for checkup he was about 20 lbs.  I give 6oz in the am then 8oz for breakfast, lunch and dinner (combination of formula and food) with 2 snack in between.  Some days he eats everything and then some and some days he doesn't finish it.  Is he crying when he's done?  I'm sure you are giving him enough but if you're really concerned then I'd check with his Pedi.

100% this. Babies generally stop eating when full, especially if they are eating finger foods. My son is 29.5 inches and 25 pounds at 11 months. I am proud of his chunk!

Hey my ds is 17 months (15 adjusted) and is only 19 lbs 29 inch . He eats a ton 3 meals and 3 snacks and has been for some time it scares me how much he can put away in his little person and he also still nurses 3 times a day. All babies are different and like pp said babies are smart they will let you know when they want more or when they are done. Just let him lead the way :) my pedi always said as long as he's on his own growth curve then not to stress.
  • pedi says to look at th baby to see if he had enough. he is not much of a help. i thought there should be a standard for babies specifically how much to eat depending on his body weight. my boy can eat a lot if not stopped. I give him specific amount of food at regulated times. also his blood sugar is monitored regularly by me(for medical reasons) and its within normal range so he is not starving or really overeating. but he still wants to eat more snacks and puffs. could it be that he just likes food? he gets it from me than lol just dont want to create a bad habbit of overeating since he is at risk of relapsed neonatal diabetes and it would mean going back on insulin pump for the rest of his life.

Good to know! This changes my advice. Your best bet it to ask the doctor who monitors his health, the pediatrician/a specialist? I hesitate to say more specific guidelines because they might not apply to your son with his history. I will say I think I have googled something before showing number of calories needed for size and age, so I know information like you are looking for exists. I assume you've googled?

  • i did, there is nothing specific really. endocrinologist didnt say much last time, especially since Michaels is in remission and we don't have to administer insulin according to carbs intake. this is my call and I just want him not to overeat or the opposite.  Therefore I am wondering about other babies weight height and amount of food eaten so I can proportionally evaluate how much my needs to eat. it would be just like examples, not guidelines.
