Infertility

Abnormal thickening???

I went for my Day 3 ultrasound and bloodwork on Saturday and instead received an unexpected surprise... The clinic has five REs that share shifts, my doctor that day was the clinic founder, which I thought was pretty neat. He started with the endovaginal ultrasound and after about 5 seconds he said we couldn't go ahead with this cycle. My stomach dropped. He said there was an abnormal thickened area in my uterus, maybe just a thicker area that would be shed once my period was over. Could also be a cyst or polyp. After some google searching and symptom matching, it sounds more like endometrial hyperplasia (mid cycle bleeding, painful intercourse, long periods). Honestly, I'm praying it is still there at my recheck on Thursday. After six years wondering why we fail at conceiving every month without any answers, dealing with living in limbo with unexplained infertility, I need a freaking reason I'm not a mom. I need to know I can be fixed.

Re: Abnormal thickening???

  • I 100% know how that feels @Hammy87. I'm getting a laparoscopy in February to check for endometriosis, polyps or lesions. On one hand I'm worried they'll find something that they can't fix. But what I'm even more scared about, is that they won't find a damn thing, and we won't know where to go from there. I just want them to find something that's going to give me an explanation as to why I'm going through all of this, and not getting the baby I so badly want.

  • Glad to know I'm not alone, although it is an unfortunate set of circumstances. I can actually remember the moment I changed my opinion on the subject and hoped they would find something wrong with me. Just so tired of being close to an answer and shot down over and over again. Prolactin was elevated, recheck showed it was normal. Progesterone was high, brought levels down with meds and still failed the iui. Had a lap for suspected endo and came back normal. It's great that everything is normal, except when it's not working!!!!
  • Hey @Hammy87 - totally relate. Unexplained is so so SOOOOo frustrating. But my new doc refuses to accept that diagnoses, instead, believes we can find something that's contributing, whether uterine related, immune related, or genetic. So far all my tests are normal too... and I've had a LOT of tests...
I just had an SHG/hysteroscopy and biopsy on Monday and no polyps or anything out of the norm were found. The biopsied tissue is being tested and part of me is like, come on... something be wrong. Which is HORRIBLE. I should hope nothing is wrong, but having no reason, and nothing to fix is frustrating. Plus if nothing comes back, it means we do PGS and that's just so bloody expensive.

I really hope you find some answers. Maybe a uterine biopsy would be a good step for you as well? Have they done that at all? Gah... I just know EXACTLY how you feel... that's really all I can say. So annoying!

  • I hope you find some answers soon but here is my latest situation with thick lining....

    *LOSS MENTIONED*
Some me and my husband have been ttc for 2 1/2 yrs started seeing an RE in July 15 had laparoscopy Aug 15 removed endometriosis and polyps and a small cyst. 1 failed TI medicated cycle, cycle off due to cysts from meds, just finished my second medicated cycle had first BFP and ended as chemical pregnancy at 5w4d and went in for base line on cd4 had very thick lining and a cysts and they did another beta to check for another pregnancy but was negative and was told to take a month off but to try naturally. Today is cd11 and I got a positive ovulation test and I normally do not ovulate until cd 18.

I have not had a thick uterine lining at baseline before so it is new to me too but hopefully you will get some answers soon and hopefully a BFP! Keep us updated and good luck!

Well that was a giant waste of time... recheck showed nothing abnormal. The nurse pointed out that my prolactin is elevated, again. Had the same issue over a year ago and even after telling them I produce milk actively, they went with the 3 day fasted sample results which were normal and didn't bother to look into things further. I figured the elevation may have been just a one time fluke, but now I'm pissed because we spent the money on an IUI last year that was bound to fail with the repeated elevated prolactin levels most likely preventing pregnancy. Sooooo frustrating. ... I'm not impressed with my clinic right now.
