I went in earlier today for my 38wk appointment and my blood pressure was unusually high. After being monitored in triage for several hours and medication to lower it, the dr said it'd be best to induce labor. My original birth plan was to do a natural unmediated Bradley method birth but I'm not sure if any of that will be a reality now. Any advice from someone who's gone through this? How long it will take? I'm a first time mom and I'm laying on this bed still trying to process what's happening.
Re: Currently being induced
There is no way to say how long it will take, your body has to prep it's self by your cervix thinning out and you dialating.
Make sure if you don't feel right after they give you a med that you tell them.
Mine took about 24hrs and I had some complications, without those it could have gone faster.
Deep breaths Mama, you got this! Good luck! Oh and the relaxation concepts of Bradely are still totally doable.
Good luck with your induction!!!
With my last pregnancy, I was induced directly from my 36 week appointment for low amniotic fluid. They used a foley bulb overnight to try to dilate me. that got me to 3cm. Then, Pitocin and they broke my water in the morning. That got me to 5cm. Then, I stalled. From 10am-10pm, I had strong regular contractions but no more dilation. In the last 2 hours of the evening, they tried a bunch of other things like narcotics, an epidural, and turning off and back on the Pitocin. In the end, nothing worked and I ended up with a C-Section. I hope your body responds well to the induction. You are 2 weeks further along than I was, so maybe your body is more ready than mine was.
Now it's just a waiting game. Here's to us both having easy quick deliveries and healthy babies!
I know it's scary, but don't worry you got this! Congratulations!!
