Starting to feel a little crazy...

So the last few days it seems like I've been having these weird hours where my body feels off, babys movement slows, my vision seems blurred or doubled and my swelling goes crazy... Decided to go ahead to OB Triage yesterday and my BP was 152/93 and babies heart rate was averaging about 180, and after a bunch of labs that came back normal and 5 miserable hours sitting in the hospital bed being monitored everything just leveled out my BP came down to 134/72 and babies heart rate went back into the "green" so they sent me home. Just curious if this could really be "because of the way the babies laying" or potentially something more serious. I've been have significantly more swelling in my right side and leg cramps which made me curious if it could be a dvt but the nurse just attributed it to the position of the baby. Wondering if this is something I should push to be looked into more or just go with the flow of it being okay and I'm just being paranoid lol.

Re: Starting to feel a little crazy...

  • I felt off a few days before I went into labor and my vision was weird; however, when I went to L&D my blood pressure was normal and baby's heart rate was normal. Do you have other symptoms of DVT - redness, pain, pain when flexing --- I never heard of vision changes as a DVT symptom. Do you have a family history? You could always go to your regular doctor and get your leg checked out. I'm not a medical professional but always worry about DVT - and it's scary because sometimes there are no symptoms. The swelling would bother me too although it is also a very common pregnancy symptom. I hope you feel better.

  • @destinyb12  - When do you see your OB next?  Seems like something to follow up on with him or her, especially since it's happened more than once.  They may have just sent you home from triage because there wasn't much they could do unless you were in an emergency or about to go into labor, but I think your OB should look into it and make sure you're okay.

I've definitely had spells of light headedness throughout this pregnancy, especially near the end when I get overheated or haven't eaten enough, but not any swelling or double vision, which can be indications of something more serious.  Anyway, hope you feel better and get some answers soon!

  • Well I had a cousin who died suddenly at 24 from a DVT, but had no symptoms of it. And my mom had a heart attack with no symptoms prior to it so I get a little paranoid about these things. I'm not sure about the symptoms of DVT only thing that made it come to mind was the weird leg cramps and one side swelling so much more

Thank you! I kinda figured since I didn't progress labor wise they'd send me home but also assumed an ER or family doctor would recommend seeing my OB with problems but I see her tomorrow! I thought not eating was my problem to but even after eating no matter how healthy or unhealthy it doesn't help the feeling. I guess I'll mention everything at my appointment and see what she suggests
  • Just tell your doctor you have DVT in the family and want a doppler. I've had 2 - it's like the least invasive test ever.
  • A good friend of mine had a blood clot in her leg during pregnancy and although one side swelled much more, she also had a LOT of pain in her leg. It sounds to me like your symptoms are more consistent with pre-e than DVT, but if your bp went down I probably wouldn't worry too much. I totally understand being paranoid though, my sister had a blood clot during pregnancy which resulted in a seizure shortly after birth. It totally freaked me out but I've been tested for her particular condition and don't have it so I know I'm just being crazy.
