Bella Baby Photography in Hospital

Anyone have any experience with Bella Baby photographers in the hospital? I tried searching for this but the threads on it are a few years old. Just curious as to how outrageous the pricing was and whether those of you who have participated would recommend it. We plan to have a local photographer out to our home to do newborn photos a week or two post delivery, but the little details in the hospital shots seem so sweet and we are considering the photo session. Apparently at my hospital you have to sign up for them to come around.

Re: Bella Baby Photography in Hospital

  • I'm not sure what company our hospital used but I always had the pictures taken. They were never the best pictures by any stretch and price was less than you'd pay for a private photographer but more than you'd pay at chain portrait studios.

  • We opted to have them done when the lady came around to our room. We only ordered a couple 5 x 7's and the announcements. It was kinda expensive but it was nice to have out of the way since i hadn't set up NB pics with a photographer. With our hospital you could have them take a couple pics and see if you like them and there background options and if not, no money is exchanged and you carry on. Not sure there all like that.

  • Our hospital does them for everyone (unless you opt out) - I had already hired a newborn photographer for shots a few days after we got home, as I wasn't expecting much - but I will say that the photographer who took the pics for Bella Baby did a pretty nice job.  Had I not already committed to a photographer, I would've been totally happy buying the photos they took.  At least in our case (and I'm guessing it's Bella Baby's policy in general), there was no cost for the photos and no obligation to buy.  Can't decide what I'm going to do this time around....

  • I was talking to my friend who's son is almost 2 about bella baby today. She said at our hospital the photographer was sub par and if her mom hadn't spent the money on them she probably wouldn't have because they were a little pricey. Our announcements and (probably if I actually want to do them) our maternity photos were/will be done with SO's nice camera and taken by his mom. If you have a decent camera and a normal computer it's pretty easy to edit stuff yourself. As I realize having a newborn this won't be as easy as I think but it's such a save on money that I will probably just make sure he has his camera in the hospital and get our announcements through tinyprints.com or something similar.
  • I hated the experience. The photographer was super nice, but it was incredibly stressful for me to have her around when I was just trying to get to know my new baby. Also, way overpriced.

If you already have someone coming to your home (what I chose to do after that first experience), I'd just do that. Better photos and better experience.
  • I don't know what company ours were but I actually ended up loving the ones they took in the hospital.mit totally took the pressure off having to schedule something at home too. That being said I wasn't at all prepared for them so it could just be that she snapped a couple of super relaxed shots that were great. I'd personally rather spend the money for a full home shoot on ~6 month shots when there is more you can do so I'm glad I have a handful that I was able to use from the hospital. Not sure what I'll do this time since I'd like DD to be in them too of course.
