When will I get energy back?

Hi!

I'm going to be a first time mom, 10 weeks and 5 days along. The first trimester has been pretty easy for me (no throwing up!).. however the big thing for me has been pure exhaustion. Like the kind where all I can do is lay down and rest. My second problem is I really want to start eating super healthy but when I attempt to eat a salad or anything healthy (besides fruit) that's when nausea kicks in.

Does this go away come 2nd tri in a few weeks? I'm lucky that this is my "slow" season for work but I am hoping that my energy will be back up to normal soon, and my weird nausea reactions to healthy foods.

Thanks for answering, like I said, this is my first pregnancy and I don't know many people who have been pregnant so I feel pretty in the dark about what to expect.

Re: When will I get energy back?

  • Im 10 weeks and 5 days as well! My exhaustion is ridiculous to the point i can fall asleep mid sentence. Lol. Hoping it gets better soon! Everyone keeps telling me the 2nd trimester will be the best

  • I'm over 12 weeks now and am feeling a lot more energised, I'm even going out with my friends on Sat Night alcohol free of course. That would never of happened 2 weeks ago. I know it's different for each person but hopefully that'll give you some hope;)
  • I hope it changes. I just slept 12 hours, and I am 12 weeks tomorrow. I also didn't have coffee yesterday, so that may have been a culprit. I didn't want anything to do with fruit and veggies at first, or coffee. Lately, I have been actually loving fruit, so that will change! I feel best the days that I force myself to go on a jog. My main problem now is that my circadian rhythm is so jacked from working nights, and my body doesn't know when to sleep. This wasn't much of an issue before pregnancy. Unfortunately, switching to days is not an option for me. I am hoping the fatigue subsides as well!
  • The toughest symptom for me has been exhaustion through both my pregnancies. This time was no different, I could barely lift a finger up until 11 weeks - the change has been like night and day, I can actually do stuff now without feeling like I am on the brink of collapse :) hang in there!

  • The exhaustion has surprised me as well. I knew I'd be tired but I can barely function! I am 8w6d and the past 2 days I have actually gotten a few chores done! I can't tell if I am feeling better or just learning to cope with it! Looking forward to more energy back soon!

  • Exhaustion has always been the hardest part for me in all of my pregnancies. This one is no different. I take naps whenever I can on weekends (sometimes even after I get out of work at 5:00pm) and still sleep the night away. It doesn't help that I have a 9 month old who must be having a growth spurt because she decided to start getting up every 2 hours to eat again. My husband helps a lot with our daughter but I still hear them so it wakes me up anyway.
  • I am also a first time mom, and the exhaustion has been the worst. I am a teacher so I am on my feet all day. By the time I get home, I can only lay down a fall asleep. I will say I am currently nearing 11 weeks, and I am starting to get my energy back! Also, I had awful nausea for the past about month which is starting to go away as well. I had so much energy last night I finally was able to get back to running a couple miles. I have a 10k in April that i was okay-ed for at the moment, so I am excited to run again.

  • With my first the second tri was good, but the exhaustion came back 3rd tri and then you have a baby so kind of never
  • Props to you and all the other moms out there who already have kids! I feel like I'm whining, I just have to worry about me myself and I lol... I just didn't expect to be this tired!
  • The exhaustion for me got better through 2nd tri but then got bad again when I got big and uncomfortable in 3rd Tri. This time it seems to be starting to let up a bit now (I'm 10w4d) so keeping my fingers crossed!

In terms of the food aversions, the nausea mostly went away for me after 12 weeks with my last pregnancy but I still had some pretty strong aversions (I couldn't eat walnuts or apricots my entire pregnancy, like couldn't even utter the words because they made me gag) and that didn't get better until a little while after giving birth. Everyone's different though.

  • @mouse1029 Thanks for saying what I was thinking so eloquently!

  • I'm 11 weeks as of yesterday and I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm noticing that I have more energy in the last few days (not completely back to normal, but definitely better!) and that my nausea and food aversions are finally subsiding. I remember feeling way better in the second trimester with my first pregnancy and it feels like that's where I'm headed. I hope you all experience the same!!

  • I am right there with you girl! FTM, 12 weeks, first person I know to be pregnant. I guess I had more energy today than I did a couple weeks ago. I managed to go to the grocery store for the first time since November I think. (Eek!) But I could still happily sleep 18 hrs a day. Hoping I find a way to work through it, there is so much to do! Especially since I know that after baby comes I will really learn the meaning of exhaustion! Scary!

When your kid goes to college. Even then it is not guaranteed.
  • Glad I'm not the only one. I'm 8w2d and at 3pm every day I just want to take a nap. And that's after sleeping 10 hours ...hoping it gets better.
  • I am the same way 10wks 5d and can sleep through an entire day and still want to go back to sleep I feel so lazy.
  • I just had a cup of coffee.. and I am ready for a nap!
  • With DS and DD I felt better after the 11-12 week mark and a lot better by 14/15 weeks. Then at 35 weeks I felt bad again, but felt a lot better after the baby was born. Pregnancy takes a lot out of you!

  • I have been awake for maybe 5 hrs today, not consecutive. Woke up late, gave a speech about how there was no screen time allowed until we did chores, ate a bagel . . . and passed out while DH did the dishes. He woke me up a few hrs later to help, I put the wet clothes in the washer into the dryer, ate a bowl of soup . . . and passed out again. Been awake for about an hour just laying in bed cuz DH invited a friend over to play vidja games. Will probably go back to sleep in another hour or so. The struggle is so real.

  • I'm 10 weeks today and my energy levels have plumited since I got pregnant. I have two other children and this one is by far the most exhausting. Also, by 4 pm I'm usually dead because of a headache and light sensitivity. I've talked to a dietitian to make sure I'm eating balanced meals which is hard when your tired all the time. Good Luck to all of us August Moms!!!
  • Girl, you probably won't ever get your energy back. Just being completely honest. You'll get bursts of energy but then you'll have a baby on the outside and have sleep deprivation. Embrace it.
  • I certainly believe that, I should have clarified I was more interested in when during pregnancy. :)
