Bradley Method

Hey ladies! I searched the board and it didn't look like this topic has come up yet on here so I apologize if it has and I missed it. Just wondering if there are any mommas on here that have done/are planning to use the Bradley Method. We started our classes a few weeks ago since we have schedule conflicts later in the spring and wanted to make sure we got all the classes in before Little Duck arrives. If you have already taken them and used this method, what did you find most helpful/least helpful? Was there anything they didn't cover that you wished they would have?

If you are taking it now/have taken it recently how was your group? I love our instructor and most of the group. There are a few mom/coach pairs that are just not into participating and sharing (like at all) and it makes it kind of awkward especially since there are only 6 pairs in our class. I feel so bad for the instructor since I have been in those shoes when trying to facilitate other groups. She doesn't ask us to share a ton, so I feel like when she does we should. Keeping it vague is ok, not everyone has to give lots of detail, but at least say a few words. I like to hear other people's experiences and views though, I think there is usually something I can learn from someone else that might be helpful one way or another.

Re: Bradley Method

  • I'm taking the Bradleybirth classes and love them! We have a pretty engaged group, and each week a different couple brings a snack to class for every one to share! My only (minor) complaint is that some of the info in the videos is old... But overall I'm really pleased w/the class, instructor and information and feel we will be well prepared for our birth!!!

@saraleigh2 That's so wonderful! I am jealous of your group, I would love that. We haven't done any videos yet other than a birth video. I am glad we are taking it a little early as I am struggling to be consistent with the HW right now so it gives me a little grace period to turn it into a routine.

  • We're doing a modified Bradley class. My mom used Bradley when she gave birth and always taught us how to do it if we were in pain/had anxiety. I actually used it when I got my three tattoos. I love it, for me it's easy. I'm really excited to start classes!
  • @Mrs Sweet Tea yeah I started early too and agree it's giving me time to catch up on the HW ( I've set an alert in my phone for the start of the 3rd Tri and told hubby that we really have to get serious- practice everyday etc at that point). Perhaps as everyone one gets to know each other things will get more fun for your group, may just take a few classes to break the ice
  • Yes, we just did our third class last night. I'm loving it! The couples in our class all share and ask a lot of questions. It's very interactive. It makes me feel more and more confident about birth every time.

The only issue we've had is one couple bringing their toddler. He isn't badly behaved, but it's very distracting. My husband was pretty irked last night, as we're paying money for this class and he feels like he may be missing things. I wish the instructor would say something about it to them. The poor kid can't be expected to play quietly for a 2 1/2 hour class!

  • yeah I would find that distracting too! If it keeps up you might consider saying something to the instructor at the end of class or arrive early to chat privately etc. having a babysitter no-show here and there is one thing but you shouldn't be bringing your kid to class every week ( if they're not old enough to quietly do homework for a few hours)
  • @lalala2004 That would definitely annoy me too! I agree with @saraleigh2 about saying something if it keeps up.

  • I'm pretty non-confrontational in person, so maybe my husband will say something >.<
