Strep Throat... twice!

Hi ladies! Brand new here, but looking for some guidance. First time pregnant, 27 years old, 8 weeks 6 days. Since being pregnant, I got strep throat twice and now I have bronchitis symptoms. I've never had so many sicknesses in such close proximity to each other. I was on amoxicillin twice, and I'm terrified of being on antibiotics again.

Does pregnancy lower your immune system? Does anyone know what effects so many rounds of antibiotics would have on a baby? I am an early childhood educator, so I know there are occupatonal hazards, but come on already!

Any help would be so appreciated! Sending good thoughts and rays of sunshine your way!

Re: Strep Throat... twice!

  • Were you tested for strep and it be positive or did doc just call u in meds? Also... each course of amoxil should have been 10-14 days would would just about encompass the whole time you've known you were pregnant.
Usually the Dr will prescribe a totally different antibiotic if you get a recurrent infection. I'd definitely load up on fluids a d take your prenatal and maybe some vitamin c too... and call the dr

  • Yes pregnancy compromises immune system but only to a point. I agree with pp to get a new med and make sure your OB is aware of this and your dr knows your pregnant if this wasn't prescribed by an OB just make sure meds you are on are pregnancy safe. If you are still sick and meds aren't helping time to start a new med

Hi Natasha! Yes, pregnancy makes you immune compromised. Drink allllll your water and wash those hands. If your OB and GP prescribe the meds its better to take them.

  • Thanks ladies! I had two rounds of 10 day long antibiotics. They were different types because clearly the first one didn't work! Both times, strep was confirmed by rapid strep test, and they were administered through my GP. Thankfully, I'm actally feeling better today. In the future, I'll make sure to consult with OB about any antibiotics!

First time posting here and it was so nice to get such quick and helpful responses. Thank you again!
