will the ultrasound technician looks for 2 babies or assume there's just one
Dear me, I hope they'd look for other babies just in case! If not, please seek out a new u/s tech! And as pp said, it's pretty obvious by 2nd tri if there is more than one.
Eta, why is this even a worry for you? Most women just worry that their lo is healthy.
I talked to our tech about this yesterday. She said even in an early ultrasound when they see a fetal pole, sac, heartbeat etc they still check everything and everywhere including ovaries because although it's rare (1 in 30,000 I think she said? Don't hold me to that) they want to make sure there isn't a concurrent ectopic. I asked how many times she had missed twins in a first tri ultrasound to then go on and find them at anatomy scan. In 20 years...zero times. I really don't think this is as common as anecdotes make it out to be.

Exactly. Even I could tell we had twins at an u/s at like 5w5d.
It will be very obvious there is more than one baby in there! I'm carrying twins and, yes, they looked for triplets (no snark, they legitimately looked for triplets).
It's possible that OP hasn't had an u/s yet, not everyone has them in first tri. It will be very obvious if there is more than one baby there, and they will check for sure. Good luck!

Very true. I've only had my one anatomy scan around 20 weeks and probably won't have anymore unless there's any issues or concerns. I think they might be able to tell by hcg levels if there could be more than one. However, do not quote me on that because I could be so very wrong...but I'd imagine the u/s tech would look for a twin just to be sure.
I'm sure they check it all. My twins were discovered at 7 weeks but there were several ladies in my twin mom groups that had their twins discovered at 20+ weeks. It's not quite as uncommon as one would think. Any reason to suspect twins?

Because hCG levels vary so widely, they are not an indicator of multiples.
They found my twins at a scan I had at 5 weeks, then we definitely saw them when we confirmed at 7 weeks, and then when I went for my 12 week scan and 20 week scan it's exactly like pp's said - you can't miss them!

In the 2nd trimester, it is obvious is there is more than on baby.

I'd certainly hope they'd check that stuff out. Oh my.
