Slightly confused about showing earlier in 3rd pregnancy

It may be a silly question...

My OB mentioned the possibility of showing earlier with this pregnancy since its my third. If the fundus doesn't reach past the pelvic bone until 12 weeks and bellybutton until 20 weeks how is it possible to show any earlier?

I should have asked, but honestly didn't think about it until the drive home.

I don't know. Maybe due to stretched out abdominal muscles ?

Since your stomach muscles have already been stretched before, they are quicker to stretch in subsequent pregnancies. And the reason it stretches before the uterus is up further is because as the uterus expands, it pushes the rest of your organs upward, thus signaling to your muscles to go outward to make more room.

Example, this is my second pregnancy, and I've had a noticeable bump for weeks (I'm 13 weeks now) which is obviously not actual baby because a baby is still small. My first pregnancy, I didn't have a bump this big until about 18/19 weeks.

Thabks for the explanation! That makes sense. I guess the topic never came up in my last pregnancy. I do feel as though I'm bigger this time around at this stage, but contributed it to extreme bloat.

I am not sure but perhaps your uterus is bigger to start with as well after being pregnant?

No, it's goes back to normal size.

@MamaBish is correct.

I did a bunch of research on this a couple of weeks ago because I felt like I already looked bigger than I had in my first pregnancy at this stage. I'm just over 11 weeks now and I'm definitely sporting a little bump, though nobody but me and DH can tell.

The uterus goes back to its normal size, but it's like a balloon that has already been inflated and deflated, it's not as hard to inflate the next time around.
