What would you do?

I am getting a little desperate for help here...  I am expecting my third child (three weeks from today), and husband and I are not sure what to do about a name.  We do not know the gender, and have a girl and boy name picked out that we both love and agree on.  However, the boy name that we like (which has been a backup for the previous two children), has been used recently in our (rather large) church...TWICE...in the last year and a half.  To be fair, the one baby and mother don't really attend our church any more, but there is still one other boy with the name we like!  I am normally TOTALLY against using a name that has been used recently, but we REALLY can't find another name that we like as much.

Would you still use the name, even though it's been used?

Re: What would you do?

  • Of course! It's what you and your husband want. Who knows how your life will change and what your interaction with that family will be in the future. Don't stress momma

  • All names have been 'used' unless you make up a name. Unless it's been used by a close cousin or a sibling, I think 'recently used' name is fine. I'd use it, especially if you really like it and can't come up with a good alternative.

  • I wouldn't stop that from naming my child a name I love and have already picked out. Unless you completely make up a name, there's always going to be another person with the same name.
  • If this were your best friend who'd named her child what you want to name yours, I'd say don't use it, but since it's just another member of your church go for it.

  • Use it. Like PP said, every name is a used name, and it's not like you're naming close cousins the same thing.

  • Genuinely don't see the issue. lol. Lots of kids have the same name... like, my mom was one of 6 Cynthia's in her class growing up.

It's a big church. People won't think you're "using" their name, and if it's one you love, go for it.

  • Agree with PPs. Go for it. Its a name you love. I would only be cautious if it were a family member or super close friend.
  • I definitely say go for it too. Especially if it's a name you love. As PPs have said, I would think more about it if it were a super close friend or family member but with it just being a member of your church I wouldn't let that stop me from using the name I love.
  • Go for it! We plan on naming our little guy the same name my boss named his son. The name is a family name and we love it.
  • go for it!

Also, super curious what the name is....
  • My baby's getting the same name as my in-laws' cat. (That's not why I'm naming him that - the name is Leo - there are a few reasons why it just seems like a perfect fit.) When I found out about it, I hesitated, but I just love Leo so much! If you've got a name you love, use it!

We are naming our baby Leo as well! Pretty much decided as soon as we knew it was a boy at 12 weeks. My older son is Sam and I feel like they just go together.
  • I'm naming my daughter Emma (my family cat is also Emma, but she's 13 years old and a good cat) my husband and I really love the name so we don't care lol
  • Okay...thank you for the input, ladies!  I think we'll go ahead and use it!

We decided on it early too! And Sam and Leo are a great pair - coincidentally, Sam is actually my father-in-law's name; Leo is his cat :-)
  • I'd still keep the name as planned...
Hubby and I agreed on Finn right after finding the sex out.... We have it on the wall and on some other things... Then star wars comes out and of course one is named Finn in it. We are going to hear it from everyone and already are having people say oh like in star wars when we bring up his name. But what ever it is what it is and the name is special to us that's all that matters (:

Btw i love leo if we have another son that will be his name (my father's name)
