So I have an induction scheduled for Saturday & I'm extremely nervous. I never thought it would come to this, and now I'm freaking out. I was told to come in to the hospital at 7am & I'd be given something to ripen my cervix. Then if it wasn't progressing she said we'd break my water and do the pitocin. She said more than likely I'd deliver Sunday. Do you have experience with any of this stuff? Is it as scary as it all sounds? If you were induced, could you share how it went?
Re: So many questions
Once they said I was ready, I pushed for 2 hours. My baby ended up being 9lbs 14oz and I did end up tearing some. He was only predicted at 8 lbs. So overall..from induction to birth it was 18 hours.
My only complication was the epidural. I reacted very strong to it and my blood pressure bottomed out and they couldn't find baby s heartbeat it was so low. They were quickly able to make everything ok by changing my position and giving me oxogyn.
Good Luck!
Be aware the cervadil causes period like cramps/ contractions..
So- I did another 12hrs of cervadil- and was sent to labor and delivery at 5am December 25th where they started pitocin at this point my cervix was thin.
I was able to sleep and pee and all sorts of awesome things (besides eat or drink) I had minor contractions while I slept...until 2:30 that day.... I woke up from my nap in tears I hurt so bad seriously. I got my epi by 3pm I tried my damnedest to hold out as long as possible but I couldn't. I was in fetal position crying.
After the epi I was good.
They put the cath in about 3:45/4:00
About 7pm my doctor came in and checked my cervix I was dilated to a 3/4 and my doctor was ESTATIC - she came in to stop pitocin and let me eat and sleep etc but since I was progressing on my own we continued.
8:30pm- I noticed a discomfort in my vagina, something felt heavy and I ha a feeling it was my water sac. When I laughed or moved I could feel it.
About 5:15 lab came in to draw blood. When the lady took my blood and turned back to her cart to bag it I heard a pop and felt liquid between my legs.
My water broke and I had bloody show. (Awesome right?!)
I was at an 8cm totally thinned and they called the dr who came in running.
It wasn't time yet. Baby was still high up in my pelvis.. So I Layed there with my legs up in the air on a "peanut" to get baby moving down.
That's when I started hurting again
I had two sitting doses of epi - I pushed the button so much the anesthesiologist told me to stop or I was going to cause problems.
About 9:30 I started pushing with the nurse and my son was born at 10:21am December 26 and I had a 2d degree tear.
It wasn't horrible- the pain from the pitocin was the worst part of the induction.
Giving birth is just uncomfortable.. Imagine feeling like you have to poop like it's about to come out and you can't get it out. That kind if uncomfortable feeling.
You'll be fine, I have a VERY low pain tolerance and I did it
I was induced at 41 weeks using the bulb and cervidil. I was 1cm and 70% effaced. I went in Friday at 7pm, was all set up with the induction by 9pm, and labor started overnight, with active labor kicking in around 5am. I didn't have to get an IV or start pitocin because my body was pretty well ready to get started. The induction part of my labor went really smoothly and I labored to 8cm and spent 3 hours in transition before things got complicated.
I will spare the details of the rest, but it ended in an emergency c section on Sunday morning after over 24 hours of active labor. This didn't have anything to do with the induction though. It was a sunny-side-up, 10 pound, 7 ounce baby that just wasn't coming out the way she was wedged in there.
My SIL went to be induced with cervadil at 38 weeks due to loss of fluid and a small baby. She had it put on in the evening like I did and taken off in the early morning hours. She had a little pitocin to help her contractions along but gave birth around 10:15am the next morning, no epidural.
My experience was not the norm for being induced this way but my SILs was. Praying for a happy, healthy deliver for you!
