Husband and Nesting

Lately my husband has been in overdrive with organizing and cleaning. He isn't normally much of an organization kind of person so I find it so funny that he gets home from work and cleans the house. He was vacuuming after I went to sleep the other night! I really think the idea of being a father has sunk in and he wants to take care of me and support more.

Anyone else with a similar miracle husband or SO? :) it's insanely endearing.

Re: Husband and Nesting

  • Can I please borrow him? I feel like the opposite has happened with mine. The more I talk about getting things taken care of and organized, the less he wants to do anything to prepare.

  • Yes! He had a little mini crisis after he found out we were expecting and was like "I need to be a better person." LOL he is so funny. But yes, has started doing chores, helping with dinner, and I even get back massages because I have been so achy!

    It's definitely nice :)
  • Mine did the opposite as well. He had four days off in a row and didn't do a single chore or clean anything. I'm spending my two days off cleaning the house and getting things done. I hope the realization that he's going to be a father kicks in soon.
  • So with my daughter, I was super sick and tired and he barely did a thing lol but he was also barely home. He works out of town for weeks at a time. This time, he has been so helpful. He was just home for 3 weeks and it was perfect timing because I was soooo sick and tired. He took care of my daughter when she needed diaper changes or anything, and he cooked and cleaned and did the dishes almost every day, while I laid on the couch and took naps lol. He's way more understanding this time around. But he left back for work yesterday and will be gone for 5-6 weeks, so I think he was just trying to be helpful while he could be.
  • DH is picked up a few more of the chores than usual. Like I would always cook dinner and do dishes afterwards, put leftovers away, etc. Now he does more of the cleaning after dinner which has been really nice.
  • My DH has stepped-up the cleaning and chores since I have been so nauseous and exhausted. He has always been the one to cook dinner...now he grocery shops, cooks, cleans...it's so nice. Super proud of him! But now I am feeling bad that he is doing all of that, and so I try my hardest to help too. Haha

  • I wish my SO was in this boat. I can't get him to do anything in the house! All I want him to do is put his dishes in the dishwasher and his clothes in the hamper. Not hard to do. Drives me absolutely insane! I'm jealous of your husband! Lucky!

  • That's awesome! Tell him he gets a big thumbs up from the Aug 2016 moms  :)

DH has been really sweet since we found out about baby #2, this pregnancy I'm way more nauseous then I was with my son, and just way more tired because I'm chasing a toddler around. He's been a lot more attentive with helping not only with the chores but with DS too.

  • I don't know that my husband has been nesting persay, but he's definitely been taking care of things around the house. I normally grocery shopping and cook, but he has picked up on both of these duties, as I haven't been feeling good, and he still cleans afterwards too!
  • Yes! My husband is doing absolutely everything, including planning dinners for our friends. I didn't know what I'd do without him before, but wow he's just the best.
  • My husband also has been fabulous! To be fair, he usually does a lot of the house work anyways. I work as a night school teacher on top of the regular school day, so I usually don't get home until 8:30 at the earliest. I have noticed he is much more eager to go through the closet to keep/trash/donate stuff. We live really far from any family, so I keep trying to motivate him to get the stuff organized now. You know before I can't see my feet anymore...

  • DH does absolutely nothing new. He cleans the litter box (rarely) and does outside work (also rarely), but he did that before. What irritates me is that he leaves his dishes wherever he ate. There's always a pile of dishes waiting for me to wash or put in the dishwasher. Also, he was off on MLK day and I wasn't, he sat on the couch and played video games all day long. Hopefully reality will kick in soon for him!

  • My husband has been snooping The Bump's baby tracker... Lol.

  • DH has been amazing with doing some extra chores and helping out more with DS which has been incredible. His organizational skills, however, still leave something to be desired. It's just not his personality to be super organized so I don't think that would ever change, no matter how much a nesting instinct kicked in.

  • Hubby has been very sweet with me and during on me, doing everything for me. But he definitely has not been helping around the house. I actually flipped out on him the other day because the house is in an awful state. I was just saying how embarrassing out house is (he kept having company over to hang out in the middle of the filth) and that it makes me feel like we're gonna be shitty parents. I still feel this way and he has yet to do a single chore. Every time I plan on cleaning, I pass out. Sigh really hoping we get our asses in gear asap.
