Infertility

New to this and frustrated with the BFN

I am new to this discussion thing but figured I would try it out since I seem to be going a little crazy with constantly getting BFN. My husband and I have been married for almost 5 years we have a beautiful daughter who is 3. We have been trying for number 2 for probably around a year. I saw my medical doctor and she put me on metformin which did help regulate my periods more but the side effects of the loose stools is really annoying. My doctor has told me which the OBGYN agrees that I have PCOS. When we gotten pregnant with my little one it happy within 6 months. I am 35 and husband is 33 and he is diabetic. I have been trying to chart when I ovulate but feel like its useless because of the PCOS. I saw an OBGYN and she gave us a couple options which were continue the Metformin, try Clomid or go to an RE. At that point I hadnt been on the metformin for a full month so we chose that route. That was about 6 months ago. My husband has really good insurance and we are thinking of moving but would like to have the baby with this insurance (silly I know) but it would save alot of money. I am frustrated because doctor told me that loosing weight would help, so I have lost almost 20lbs been eating really good but definatly could loose more. I am just frustrated everytime I get my period its like a river of failure. I think we are going to choose to go to the RE next but just tired of all the hoops and steps. If I am honest I am jealous about the people around me that seem to just sneeze and get pregnant, My job is stressful so I feel like maybe that contributes to it but just so frustrating all these things could contribute to it :(

Re: New to this and frustrated with the BFN

  • I am so sorry you feel frustrated and are going through this.  You have come to the right place for support and answers to your questions.  Everyone on here is wonderful.  I know it may sound silly but have you tried meditation to help with the stress? I find it very helpful.  There are many guided meditation videos online.  Just a thought.  Hugs and prayers to you!

So sorry you are here, but ladies on this board are full of info and support. ** Trigger child mentioned** I have a 4 yr old ** and we have been trying for over a year and my OBGYN gave us a referal for an RE. I would definitely start working with an RE they will be able to guide you so much more beacuse of the varying circumstances causing us to have trouble getting pregnant and they are the experts at determing why and giving you the best options for treatment. I am 28 and have DOR so it is very stressful and I understand how you feel when you get your period I hate it and it puts us right back into the "maybe next cycle it will happen" feeling. I hate it even more when I run out of pads/tampons and I go to the store and am just so angry that I even have to buy more. You are not alone and I wish you all the best luck TTC!!

  • Welcome, and I hope you find the support you need. I'm in agreement that a RE will probably have an action plan and will be able to do more diagnostic testing. I'm completely understand you wanting to have your baby under your current insurance plan. I have a similar situation with my job. I'm thinking about moving, but won't be eligible for FMLA if I start somewhere else. My current job gives 3 months paid family leave. I just need to get pregnant! Best wishes for a successful treatment plan.

  • Welcome @Erinlovesjackie - sorry to hear about your recent struggles. I never thought of myself as a "forum" kind of gal, until I found this lovely group of people. You'll be sure to find individuals dealing with similar issues and personally I find great comfort in that. It's so nice just having others that understand. Try not to judge yourself for not losing enough weight, or being too stressed with your job. There are a lot of women who have those same issues and are able to get pregnant. Try not to blame yourself! I'm sure you're doing the best you are able to, and that's all you can ask of yourself. Just a side note, and forewarning, there are individuals who can be sensitive to reading about children, so some people put ***warning, child mentioned*** etc, in their post before mentioning. Not necessary, but definitely a little added sensitive touch for those who may be having a hard day :) As for the insurance thing. That doesn't sound silly at all. Infertility is an insanely expensive road, and the finances are always something we need to be considering unfortunately. I'm sure you'll figure out a plan. I think an RE is a good direction to go in, as they are the experts in this field and will be able to give you the best advice available for treatment! Wishing you so so SO much success on this hard journey. I hope your stay with us is short for all the right reasons!

  • Welcome @Erinlovesjackie, sorry to hear about your struggles and that you have to join this forum. Although these women give great support, and I am happy to have met/talked to all of them, I don't wish for anyone to have to join us.
Well done on the loosing weight part, keep going strong there, you can do it!
Its not silly that you would like to stay where you are because of the insurance.
I have to pay everything out of my own pocket..and the costs are ridiculous.

Take your time to figure out a plan, talk with an RE, they will be able to answer all your questions. It doesn't mean that when you talk to one you have to go through with the treatment. But they'll definitely can help you with your options.

    Wishing you GL
