I am just so sick & tired

I'm soooo done! Beyond done really with this whole PH balance crap! I've been itching so, so, so bad for months! I've gone to my OB several times and I don't have any infections.... no UTI.... no YI.... nothing! I can't seem to sooth it either. Its just a constant annoyance and I'm to the point I'm about to flip out! I've cried 100 times over this because like I said... it's constant. I can't do anything. I change my underwear a million times, I stopped using panty liners because I break out in a rash every time I use them, I've tried creams [vagisil and cortazone10] both extra strength, I use the wipes that helped me before I got pregnant, I do wear cotton underwear and loose clothing...sometimes even go without underwear for slight relief, and I've switched my regular soap I've used my whole life to the Summers Eve PH balance formula kind..... I've even tried the sex remedy [someone told me semen helps. I know kinda weird. But totally didn't help].

Nothing has helped.... I don't know what to do.... I'm at the edge of losing my mind.... someone please tell me I'm not alone :'[ or that they know another way

I'm not entirely sure I understand what the problem is here. Do you have some sort of vaginal itching going on?

    BV?

Have you upped your intake of probiotics?  That may help.

  • Are you using scented laundry detergent? For years I've had to use unscented detergent (at least for my underwear) and fragrance free sensitive skin Dove soap or I feel irritated. I wouldn't trust anything with a fragrance even if it was "pH balanced." Consider other possible irritants that come in contact with your lady bits. I'm not sure what kind of wipes you're using but you may want to consider stopping. Also, I wouldn't use hydrocortisone near your vagina- that may make you more prone to a yeast infection. Good luck!

  • Is it possible its already a yeast infection that is not clearing up? I mean, that's a heck of a long time for it to just keep on keeping on, but has that been checked? My DD gets a yeast infection if she's on an antibiotic and her pedi pescribed nystatin cream. Anytime she has a rash that doesn't go away we know its a yeast infection (because she is thick skinned and almost rarely gets anything down there) so we default to using that and things start clearing up the same day. Just doing a quick check, it looks like that is a category A drug for pregnancy, but double check with your OB if that is a possible route for potential treatment.

  • Well the cortozone cream is made for your vag and the wipes were vagisil wipes. But I'll stop using the wipes as often to see if that does anything different. My soap is unscented and my OB said that I don't have an infection of any kind. He suggested to do everything I've been doing but nothing has helped. I use unscented hypoallergenic laundry soap because I'm allergic to the perfumes in detergents. Oh well. Thank you all for the help though. I guess I really just needed to vent is all. :I
  • I just didn't have this problem nearly as bad as I did when I was pregnant with my son.
  • Maybe she just needs some air.

  • I would second changing your detergent to a free & clear version and also staying away from putting anything perfumed down there. I second Dove Sensitive skin soap bars - love it!! It has no dyes or perfumes and minimal ingredients. Plus they sell it in bulk at Costco!  Even if I use a smelly shower gel and loofah in the shower, I will then soap and wash my nethers with Dove.

Personally, I am super skeptical of a 'ph balance' assisting cleanser because I don't really believe a topical cleanser can change your PH balance, which begins internally, as in INSIDE your body. But that's just me, as I'm super skeptical about how products are marketed to women.

Best of luck! More yogurt, girl :)
  • Have you been checked for Bacterial vaginosis? I had that once when I was in high school and it was just awful. I kept thinking it was a bad yeast infection, that wouldn't subside. After about 2 months of agony, my doctor finally checked for that and sure enough that is what it was. It's got very similar symptoms to a yeast infection, and won't be cured by the same products. Something to consider in case your doc hasn't yet. The other thing, I never had any issue with monistat when I was younger and then 1 day I tried to treat a yeast infection at home....only to find that I am now horrifically allergic. It ended with me going to the walk in because it was so unbearably irritated and painful. I actually found the only thing that helped was an ice pack, and staying in my room with no bottoms on. Best of Luck!

I would DEFINITELY stop using the vagisil wipes or the Summer's Eve then!
  • As other pp's have said I would stop with any wipes or soap except dove unscented and free & clear detergent. I also believe a good quality probiotic is super important (look for one with NO fructooligosaccharides). I was having a problem with reoccurring yeast infections a few years ago. This may sound weird, but someone suggested to me to make sure my toilet paper was unscented (it will specifically say unscented at the bottom). As soon as I switched, I stopped getting infections.

I hope you find some relief soon!
  • Have you done a round of monistat? My dr didn't think I had a yeast infection, but I finally just did the 7 days of monistat and I was fine after.
  • Also, if you haven't considered this yet, don't shave down there and see if that helps.
I would also recommend not using soap on that area until you calm down a little bit, and I second what people have said about letting it air out.

Don't go to bed with underwear on, and wash your sheets regularly, especially if you have pets, because the oil from their hair can really irritate you. (Older woman I worked with swore that was my problem a few years ago, no idea if it's actually based on science, but washing more frequently made a difference so /shrug)

I'm not a dr, but I have had the occasional itching issue that the dr can't explain no matter what, so I found anecdotal stories for it, and those three things really helped me! Using soap down there gives me issues, as well as shaving, using tampons, and never giving myself time to air out.

Yogurt helps (raw yogurt is best, or at least it was in my case.)
  • I love the Dove sensitive soap but i go for the body wash instead of the bar for my lady parts. I feel like the bar just sits there open to any and all bacteria etc. Warm water and an exterior cleans is sufficient- dont go cleaning the inside or it may make it worse. All those other special PH balance stuff doesnt work for me. My recent yeast infection was due to antibiotics. Only itching no other symptoms. Had to do 4 days of monestate.

Not saying anything negative about you when i ask this but have you been tested for other bacteria/virus?

I hope you get some relief soon!!
  • Yes thank you all for your help! My OB said I didn't have any type of infection, we went through a pretty lengthy list, so I didn't think to try Monistat. My fiance got me a 3 day treatment and after the first day... WONDERFUL. I was almost 100% better! After all 3 treatments it's like night and day! I didn't know it was that great! I am so so so happy now :D

Thanks again for all the advice! ♡ and well wishes!
  • I suffered from recurrent BV and YI (which have all stopped during pregnancy, weird!)
Sometimes I get the symptoms of BV without actually having it and my doctor has said it is a PH issue.
What helped me is taking a warm bath (not hot) with 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar (my doctor suggested it).
Coconut oil spread on the labia as a barrier (not internal, just helps with external itching and dryness/irritation).
    And cold compresses.
I use no soaps around my labia, use only scent free baby mild Dr Bronners for body wash.
Only cotton underwear and no undies at night.
I have never worn tight clothing so no changes there.
Watched the amount of sugar I ate, and upped my probiotics.
And switched to a diva cup and reusable cloth pads.

After making all these changes I was rarely having an issue, but still did from time to time.
I'm not sure if any of these will help you, I just know they helped me with the symptoms.
  • @Chichi93 So glad you found relief! Sometimes if the doctors do a vaginal exam, they won't see telltale yeast infection signs like discharge if you just wiped up in preparation for the appointment, OR if you just happened to not have any. Some women simply get yeast infections with only a few of the traditional symptoms, so your doctor could have missed it without swabbing for cultures. Either way, so good to hear it's over!!

Fantastic.... but now that you have relief... less is more.... I know it sounds crude to say this BUT.... girl.... your girl is a self-cleaning unit and doesn't need help.

Use the dove and stay away from all the other.... no panties at night (I mean heck the jokers don't fit right with our bellies anyways)...

    Ahhhhh
  • @Missingchampagne Yea I've never had a yeast infection in my life until I got pregnant with my son. Then I got pregnant with my daughter and omg I've had them like every month! I'm not sure why. I drink tons and tons of water and do what I can to stay as clean as possible. Oh well I'm just so thankful it's over!

@MamaRoni haha yea *blushes* I was just EXTREMELY desperate!
