I'm on my third day of Diclegis and am still absolutely miserable all day and night. Has anyone taken this and if so, did it take a while for it to kick in? I'm starting to give up hope for it! Thanks!
Thanks, me too! I took zofran my last pregnancy and it didn't do much for me-- so I'm holding out hope for this stuff! Are you feeling better with the zofran?
I seriously think it's hit or miss. Some days it helps tremendously then other days it does absolutely nothing for me. Zofran with my first worked so much better insurance just doesn't cover it.
@PJpeppercorn Neither one has really cut it for me. The doctor says I can take them together, so I'm going to try tonight.
The Zofran has made me really constipated, too. I keep joking that this baby needs to come out holding a winning Powerball ticket and plane tickets for a tropical vacation.
It took a few days for the Diclegis to start working for me, but after about a week on that it didn't do much anymore. Given that I was throwing up nonstop I started on Zofran. And I have to take that consistently to stay functional.
Zofran made me super constipated too! You can take colace, I found that coconut oil capsules taken a few timed a day helped as well. I'm 11 weeks now and only take 4mg of zofran 1st thing in the am, it gets better.
It's sounds like Diclegis isn't the miracle drug for many! I have an appt next week. If things haven't improved a bit by then, I'll ask about zofran or something else!
I started with unisom and b6 and after about 48 hours around 6 weeks, I felt much, much better. That awesomeness only lasted a week or so though and then I woke up one morning and actually puked at 8 weeks. Changed to diclegis, had a second bad day, and then all was pretty well for a week around 9 weeks, and then back to sick. Kept the diclegis but added ginger pills and that helped for a week, then I think the ginger started actually making digestive things worse. At 10 weeks, Kept the diclegis, cut the ginger, but added Phenagran at night before bed Thursday night, had another rough day Friday, and Saturday was a little better, and most of today has been pretty good.
So, moral of the story, if you've been taking the diclegis or anything really in my book for 3 days or so and it doesn't help, it probably won't. And I hope whatever you do find that works actually keeps working for a while!!!
what dose are you taking? I take the max 4 pills a day and I am still nauseous 24/7 but would be a lot worse without it. unfortunately it doesn't completely get rid of symptoms for everyone. I would be careful about Zofran as it isn't suppose to used on pregnant ladies it was intended for cancer patients. It should only be used if you cannot keep anything down and have HG a very severe form of MS.
I started it Friday night and it worked for me by Sunday. But, it also makes me incredibly exhausted. I felt like a zombie all weekend, almost to the point where I could barely care for DD. I think I'm going to have to suck it up and just deal with the nausea b/c I cannot survive being that tired.
I started it over a week ago, and it's helped me a lot from the first day I took it. I still have good and bad days. (today I am not doing too well). But I only do the 2 pills at night. I am worried about being too sleepy during the day if I take another in the morning or afternoon. I may risk it though. I haven't actually thrown up in a while though just get gaggy.
I had never heard about this medication before my appointment today and my doctor gave me some samples to help with this intense nausea since I've lost quite a bit of weight. I'm going to try it out next weekend when DH is home (starting with the 2 pills at night) because she said it might make me sleepy and I am pretty sensitive to medication. Hopefully it will help me actually get a decent night's rest too! The only time I can really eat is midnight-2am. It would totally help to be on the same schedule as my family/the rest of the world (not like a vampire).
@justaudrey It definitely helped me SO much. You have no idea how thankful I am to this medication. I know it doesn't work on everyone, but I am so glad I tried it. I think it does help sleep (although I still wake up 3 times a night to go pee. Yuck.) I've noticed that around 9-10am I start to feel a little too nauseous again, and I started taking the 1 in the morning too. (my doctor told me 2 before bed and if I still get sick during the day, to take another one in the morning. Max does is 4 a day). I was super worried to take the one in the morning because I didn't want to be falling asleep at my desk. But so far today I am feeling just as tired as I have been (yay for pregnancy fatigue!), not any worse. So, I don't think it makes people as drowsy as people think.
But you did say you are sensitive to meds so that very well could make you more sleepy. If your taking it at bedtime, I am sure the sleepiness would be gone by morning. But if you need that 1 in the morning, to wait until your off all day just in case it does make you sleepy.
@Whitmore1027 that's awesome! I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'm mostly super sick from 3pm on. I can manage the AM nausea by just staying busy. I don't know what it is about the afternoon that gets me twisted. Yes, pregnancy fatigue is no joke! I was worried it was going to be double the exhaustion.
I'm a SAHM to an active 15-month-old so no days off here (no complaints!
with my first pregnancy i had hyperemesis and literally not one of the meds on the market help my nausea and vomiting. I lost 20 pounds in the 1st trimester and vomiting all the way up to labor Thank the Lord, now with baby # 2 I am not having too much nausea! hope you feel better soon!
I'm so glad you are feeling better with baby #2! You deserve it after your first experience. That was my hope with this babe but no such luck! Hopefully the nausea doesn't last as long with this one as it did with my first!
Re: How long for Diclegis to start working?
I hope the Diclegis works for you soon!
The Zofran has made me really constipated, too.
