Sleepy after shots?

Normal I'm guessing? I guess she'll eat a lot when she wakes up. I really don't want to wake her. She's usually hungry by now. Anyone else's lo sleep a lot after their 4 month shots?

Re: Sleepy after shots?

  • Yes. Totally normal. Just check for a fever when she wakes up just to be cautious. Anything above 100.4F call peds

My LO was super tired after his two month and 4 month shots. Poor guy :(

  • Her forehead is nice and normal I know not the best check. It was good before with the thermometer but I'll keep monitoring. Finally woke up for a snack lol

  • I'm still a week away from her shots but my lo was like that with her 2 month shots. I did give her some childrens Advil to help her with the soreness right after.

Not for judgment, but informational purposes- I was told no ibuprofen until 6 months. Only Tylenol before then and not as preventative since it may lessen the effectiveness of the vaccines. Your ped may say different, but just wanted to throw that out there in case it was inadvertent.
  • Mine was so sleepy after his 4 month shots he slept 11hrs straight that night and was drowsy all the next day. He didn't have any sleepiness during his 2 month ones.
  • My LO had her shots yesterday (turned 4 m yesterday) and she had a horrible nights sleep. I think we are in regression territory.
  • Yup! Our little guy was super sleepy after his 4-month shots and ended up giving us the best night's sleep in a loooong time! He did run a slight fever the next day so I gave him one dose of Infant Tylenol then and at my next check a few hours later his fever was gone.
  • Yes- my lo always sleeps a ton. We give him Tylenol every time, too.
  • My LO's 4 month shots are next week and I am a little nervous. He did good with his 2 month shots, we gave him Tylenol an hour before the appointment and he did not get a fever. I think I am going to do the same before his next appointment.
  • @cmlsu yes you are right I just looked at what I have and it's not Advil, it's Tylenol. My apologies! I probably look like a dumbass. Her Ped said Tylenol was okay as long as it's used correctly.
  • My LO usually sleeps the whole day and doesn't eat his normal amount after shots. Should be back to normal in a day or 2
  • I just realized I never answered the original question. My girl slept for hours after her shots and then great that night. I never noticed anything other than sleepiness sheet both 2 and 4 month shots.

@lolad5 - there are so many rules it's hard to remember, that's why I just wanted to throw it out there. It's hard enough to just form complete sentences these days much less put the right words in them :)

Agree with this advice... My ped said one of the worst things you can do is give preventative Tylenol. It greatly reduces the effectiveness of the vaccine.
  • Same here...sleepiness after shots. After his 4 month shots, I cleared my schedule (as if I have one) and just cuddled and snuggles all day long. I had to make a positive out of it!
