Excessive Braxton hicks

I am 20 weeks today and had a large ammount of Braxton hicks at work today. I am a server. I called the office and they were not concerned as I am not bleeding or having discharge. Anyone else having lots of BH already? This is something I definitely pay lots of attention to as I had preterm labor several times with my twins beginning at 29 weeks.

ETA: they are stopped now, after I was home and able to rest they went away.

Re: Excessive Braxton hicks

  • Ive been having what I'm pretty sure are a few BH contractions a day for the past week or two (I'm only 17+3). If your doctors know of your history and aren't concerned then I wouldnt stress too much.

  • I too had pre-term with my first and have had earlier and more consistent BH with each subsequent pregnancy and I went to term with them so I wouldn't worry, just make sure to stay hydrated and rest ;)
  • I second what others have said. If your doctor knows your history and isn't concerned I wouldn't be either. Just make sure to stay hydrated and rest when you can.

  • I get them a ton for some reason and I did with my son too. The only thing that helps me is laying down and drinking water
  • I get them quite frequently too. I think it's partially that this is my third baby so I'm noticing them more than I might if it was my first. Unless they're making you uncomfortable I wouldn't worry. It's a good excuse to sit down for a minute if you need to though, which I know servers aren't always able to do!
  • Thanks everyone!
  • I'm 19w2d and I've been getting them for the past week or so, never more than a few a day. They're definitely more noticeable than they were with DS. Probably because I know what contractions feel like so I can tell that's what's happening. They're not painful, just uncomfortable. Lying down on my left side and drinking water helps.
  • I started having them at 15 weeks. My doctor said "totally normal, drink lots of water".

  • Yeah I had between 50-70 at work yesterday. Super annoying to say the least!!!
  • Lots of water! I've been having them this time and I feel water logged, but they stop almost immediately!
  • Yup I've had a lot this pregnancy. I was worried since I didn't have them with my boys until after 30 weeks. My OB said its normal, stay hydrated and not to worry unless they are increasing in intensity, and timetable, or i am leaking fluid or bleeding.

  • I agree. In my experience, water makes a big difference. Last pregnancy, I felt contractions (around 35 weeks) about 10 min. apart for a few hours. But then in drank a few glasses of water, and they were gone!
