Has any other mom been told the devastating news at a 2nd trimester ultrasound that one of your babies had a serious birth defect? If so, I would love to hear your experience and any advice you can give.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear such sad news. Thoughts and prayers to you. I had twins and one of my twins has a heart defect that was not diagnosed prenatally. It's not a life-threatening heart defect, but she still may need surgery in the future. My recommendation to you is to keep asking questions - maybe even ask for a more specialized ultrasound with a maternal fetal medicine specialist. I'm sure there is still a lot that is unknown at this point, and that can be hard as well. Take care.
Mama to Three Girls: Twins born March 2014 at 26 weeks due to preterm labor and our 37weeker born May 9th, 2016!
I found out at my 20 week ultrasound that my son (DS2) had a complex congenital heart defect where half of his heart didn't grow properly (hypoplastic left heart syndrome or HLHS) and the aorta was attached to the wrong side of the heart (double outlet right ventricle or DORV). These defects meant that he had to have his first open heart surgery at 5 days old, his second one at 5 months old and he still needs another one this fall when he turns two. The news was absolutely devastating as the outcome for these kids varies and Dr. Google shows all sorts of horror stories of things going wrong.
I don't know what diagnosis you received, but my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. It's so painful to learn that what you thought was a normal pregnancy isn't what you anticipated it to be.
First Son - born 2013
Second Son - born 2014 - Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV). First open heart surgery at 5 days old. He's had 3 open heart surgeries and several other procedures and is currently doing amazing. Third Son - due June 9, 2018
