Baby conservatively weighing at 9 lbs 3 oz

baby was weighing conservatively 9lbs 3 oz as of last Wednesday. I'm due on the 20th and I can barely breathe. I'm so frustrated and uncomfortable. No signs of labor. Ugh.

  • I believe it. Just from measurement and how large I am

  • These estimates can be up to 2lbs off. Don't stress it that much. You have the right body for your baby. Sorry you're feeling uncomfortable, hang in there. Baby will be here so soon!

  • I'm due on the 20th with no signs either :(
  • I am so sorry. I too think the estimates could be off, but I had a 9lb 6oz baby, and while I don't think the labor was any harder (I went natural) I was so uncomfortable before she was born. I'm only 5 ' 4" so I could barely breathe pretty much all the time, especially when i went to bed at night. Worst feeling ever. Hang in there.
  • I agree with pps that weight could be off, I've always heard about 1 lb either way. DS was supposed come ot about 8.5 and he was 9.8. I was shocked at how large he really was but I also had no problems pushing him out. Nothing you can do anyway so just prepare to go with the flow! Good luck!

  • I was told at 37 weeks that his weight was about 9lb 7oz. That was over 2 weeks ago. My doctor recommended a scheduled c-section just to be safe for both him and I, which is tomorrow. I'm a little bummed that I don't get to do the skin to skin or delayed cord clamping like I had wanted, but I trust my doctors opinion. When I jokingly said yesterday at my appointment that he could come out at 7lbs my doctor said we can pretty much rule that one out. I'm very, very large in the stomach department, and it's all baby lol
  • @huskerfan2012 - good luck tomorrow! You are making a safe decision for you and your baby. There are evidence-indicated increased risks with vaginally delivering a macrosomic baby. Sure many people deliver fine, but the increased risk of shoulder dystocia is very real.

When you get to the hospital tomorrow, tell your OB, nurses, anesthesiologist, everyone that you'd like to do skin to skin. As long as you and LO are okay, you should be able to do skin to skin in the OR. You can be doing skin to skin while your OB finishes up. :)

  • At 37 weeks I was told that baby is measuring about 9lbs, as well.  I go back on Thursday for another scan and may potentially be schedulign a c-section.  As of last week, I still had no progression and baby had not dropped - just as snug as a bug in there!  I can totally empathize with how frustrating this can be and how uncomfortable you feel.....I really wanted to deliver this baby naturally, but if nothing's progressing it doesn't make sense to induce and if we go much further, I'm afraid of how big this baby will be! I'm just going to go with my doctors recommendations of what is best an safest for me and baby.  Until then, I'll just continue to not breathe and waddle around in pelvic pain - you're not alone!!! :)

I actually just read this yesterday. I love this website. Basically your risks go up just by having your doctor THINK you are having a larger baby as opposed to women who didn't know and actually had one. It changes the way doctors treat your birth, usually involving more interventions, which in turn increases your risks.
These scans are notoriously off and usually you have a normal sized baby and your body is equipped to birth.
@huskerfan2012 idk about your hospital policy but at my hospital they do direct skin to skin for csection now. It's something worth asking about.
  • I wouldn't stress about it. You can't control it, and when you do go into labor the hospital will make sure that you are well taken care of. I agree with others though my little one was 8 lbs 9 oz and I had a way easier delivery with her at 38-6 than I did with my 6 lb 11 oz baby at 38-4.
  • The baby size doesn't matter as much as the mom's pelvis and baby's head. My sister had an awful time with my nephew, who was only 6#8oz, because she as a narrow pelvis and his head was huge. With my second nephew, who was bigger but had a normal head size, it was a lot easier. I have several friends who have had 9 and 10# kids vaginally with no issues.

  • The estimates can be off. The day I had DD the ultrasound estimated she'd be 9 lbs 6 oz and hours later she was 8 lbs 3 oz.
