OT: 30th birthday ideas

My 30th birthday is at the end of the summer, and dh keeps asking me what I want to do for it. For his 30th a few years ago we went on a family vacation with ds to Costa Rica, and we had planned to go to Europ for mine. But now of course we will have three kids by the time it's my birthday, the last one only 2 1/2 months old, and we won't have the time or money for a big trip. I never make a big deal out of my birthday, dh doesn't even usually remember a gift which is fine, but this year is a little different.

So has anyone here done something fun for their 30th? What would you do if you could pick? We could always just do dinner out, but that's not very creative

Re: OT: 30th birthday ideas

  • Mine was in October... and I was pregnant.  My DH through me a big party in the back yard, had tents set up, catered Chipotle, and a local musician playing for us.  He also had a volleyball net set up and a bon fire going at night.  We had a few coolers of bevs/beer/wine.

We invited all of our friends and closest neighbors, and it was a blast!!

  • My 30th was a few years ago, but I just had a get together at a local bar outside patio (also an August birthday).
If you have the space in your house, why not have a house party?

Most people I know don't do crazy trips for their birthdays, just a party or something. This year for my 33 birthday we were in the Caribbean, but that's just when we decided to go on vacation.

  • For my 30th I did a big family style party. I had a good time seeing all of my relatives.
  • Sounds like fun parties!
I don't have any family within an hour, and not a lot of our friends live locally anymore, so I'm not sure who I would even invite. Maybe something small with one or two other families would be fun.
@NicknShan a Bon fire in the backyard sounds fun! That would be nice in early September.

  • For His I did a surprise golf outing and party at our house. It was really fun. I want to go to Vegas for mine!

Tickets for a concert or sporting event or musical would be fun!
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • Mine was themed "Throwback 30th". It was at a park. We rented a baseball field to play kickball :) We had a local party vendor come out and cook hamburgers/hot dogs + cotton candy, popcorn, & snow cones. We also had people come in their favorite throwback tshirt. I wore a pink power ranger shirt! We had a blast!!!! The invitation looked like a mad libs page, too. Fun, festive, & totally laid back.
  • For DH's 30th (when I was 7 weeks pregnant with our first) we went on an incredible overnight mountain hike. It was just the 2 of us which was actually really special. Loved it!

My own 30th is in May so I'll be super pregnant. I'm renovating my condo right now and hoping it'll be done in time to have people over to show off the new look and celebrate my birthday. Nothing fancy. May is still pretty dodgy for weather here, otherwise I would want to do something outdoors.
  • I'm following this because I want some ideas, too. I turn 20 in March, so no big trips for us, but DH really wants to do something special for my 30th (we went to Vegas for his - those were pre-baby days) and keeps asking me what I want to do.
  • My 30th is also this summer...I'm hoping that I (key word, lol) don't have to plan anything. It will be just a couple of weeks after our LO is born, so I can't imagine we'll do anything overly exciting, but I'd still like to celebrate it a bit. For DH's 30th I threw him a big party with family & friends, & did 30 gifts for the 30 years.

  • I love the backyard BBQ/bonfire idea.

  • I went gambling for the night in Blackhawk, with my hubby for mine last summer. Obviously you will have a new baby but maybe a mini trip with or without kids depending on your comfort level is an option.
