Blue for a girl

I saw this navy blue polkadot chevron crib set that I fell on love with before knowing the sex, but I can't get it out of my head even knowing it's a girl now. Is there anything wrong with going blue for a girl? Maybe add a couple pretty pinks in for a feminine touch?

  • Do what you want! Honestly, it's easier to make a girl's room any color you want. People would probably think it was weird if you made a boy's room pink and frilly, but you can totally get away with this.

  • Go for blue. It's a good color. I bought a blue blanket last week because it was on sale. It's a light baby blue with scalloped edges. It was in the boy section, but honestly, looked far more girly than boy. I don't know what I'm having, but I don't care what color. If I like it, I'll get it.
  • Do it! If people say anything just tell them... "I like blue, does that mean I'm not feminine?"
  • Go for it! That sounds beautiful whether it's for a girl or boy!
  • Yeah, just chiming in to say: if you like it, get it, who cares about gender-coded colors.

There are all sorts of stereotypically girly things that are blue. Hell, it's even in the wedding rhyme: something old, something new; something borrowed, something blue.

Do what you want, if it's a pretty color and a nice design, that's all the justification you need right there.
  • I had a boy already...so, sorry little girl, you're getting the navy blue decor! (They will be sharing a room) There are really gorgeous color schemes on pinterest with navy blue as the main color for girls.
  • I think gender specific colors are becoming a thing of the past- if you like it, go for it!
  • Agree with all the PPs, I love blue and would have made it at least an accent color, boy or girl. Sounds gorgeous!
  • Go for it!! I am 100% of gender neutral, and the idea that colors = your gender identity to be total crap. We went blue-gray and silver for our color scheme before we knew the sex, and didn't bat an eye if it was a girl. I fully support an aesthetically pleasing, harmonious color scheme (no matter what the combo is) over gender-specific socially created norms any day!

Navy is extremely gender neutral. And classic.

  • I wear blue more than any other color. If I had a girl, she would too.
  • Absolutely! You can compliment it with other colors to make the decor more girly.
  • Navy with accents of a light pink would be adorable. It's your baby girl, go for it! I'm sure she will love it.
  • I painted my daughter's room blue! I love it! Her room isn't really girly, has more of am artsy flair but i like that it will grow with her too. Haven't even thought about this next girl's room.... Better get on that ;-)
  • Blue is my favorite color (DH's too!) so our daughter is getting all sorts of blue stuff. Sorry kid!
  • I had a blue room growing up... I personally am not the biggest fan of pink and I was planning to do my baby's room blue, beige and white whether or not we were having a boy or girl. Definitely go for it.

  • Team blue walls for our first girl! I was very anti-pink when I was pregnant with her, and now I am thinking of painting her big girl room a pale pink, haha. Either way - I picked out a shade of turquoise that I really loved. Choose what you love and you can't go wrong.

You are in luck!  For baby girls all colors work well :)
  • My mom used blue in my nursery. And since I already have two boys, I was going to use blue if this baby was a girl. I never did gender specific themes with anything I bought so everything I already had could work. But I was definitely planning on using blue for a girl and was going to rock it and love it!
