Nose Bleeds, Blurred Vision Oh My!

Hey Ladies!

I'm not a nose-bleeder and today was the third time this month I've woken up to a bloody nose! I also constantly see dried blood when I blow. Anything I can do? Anyone that can relate?

I dont know if this is related, but I also feel like I totally can't see. I find myself using my "night-driving" glasses throughout the whole day. Anyone else experiencing this? And do we know if it corrects after pregnancy? I'm considering seeing an eye doctor but don't want to spend on all kinds of lenses if it's only temporary.

Other than these two nuisances, I'm really enjoying pregnancy otherwise. I'm 22 weeks, energetic, with a healthy appetite & so far without pain.. Hope everyone is feeling good too <3

The nosebleeds are normal. Try keeping moist by drinking lots of water, using saline or a neti pot, or using Vaseline. The vision could be normal, or could be a sign of preeclampsia if you also have high blood pressure and are spilling protein in your urine. I'd put in a call to your doctor about that.

Assuming the vision change is a normal pregnancy vision change, it may go back, it may not. Everyone is different here from what my eye doctor has told me. I had a slight improvement in my vision last pregnancy that stayed; this time it seems to be unaffected for now. GL!

  • Yep, both normal. I also have "night driving" glasses, but I truly do see better with them all day. Pregnancy just exacerbates it.

  • Yes both are normal. I had to go get a stronger prescription. I felt like I was going blind!
  • After I gave birth to my first I had to go to get contacts (previously had no glasses or anything) so it may be permanent change that just happens with pregnancy.

I agree with @kbrands7. Definitely get some saline spray for your nose! My nose bled most of my pregnancy with DD and I had previously never had a bloody nose.

The vision changes are likely normal too. One of my eyes has gotten significantly worse but I'm waiting until after the baby is born to do anything about it. I'm hoping it goes back to normal! I was planning on getting lasik soon so another change in eye sight would just push that back for me again.

  • My vision got a little worse with my last pregnancy, but seems ok so far this time.  If you are just a little bit blurry, there's no harm in waiting to see if it gets better.
Just to be clear - you're not having blurred vision, right?  As kbrands said, it could be a symptom of pre-eclampsia.  Don't mess around with that. Call your ob and get your BP checked!

  • My vision got worse during my last pregnancy and actually continued to get worse for about a year after. I would recommend not getting new glasses if you can help it, once you've had time after baby has come for your vision to normalize, or stop changing in my case, then I would go get new glasses.

    Try a humidifier.

My eyes also get worse during pregnancy (and very dry) but go back to normal after. Last pregnancy I had to get my eyes treated at a specialist since 1 was almost shut and blurry and it wasn't pink eye (they attributed it to pregnancy and gave me prescription drops).

My nose has ran constantly since the positive pregnancy test. Previously it never does. Many times there is blood. Also bloody gums (which the dentist said is normal, I don't have cavities or anything else wrong).
  • @JennyS86 @kbrands7 @JessicaB0627 The vision is not blurred, but it's definitely bad on a constant level. My BP is on the lower side and urine analysis is always good, so it's not preeclampsia. Driving glasses help, so I guess I'll just wear them until the baby comes and hope it goes back after that. It's all TBD, at this point I suppose.

It's relieving to know I'm not the only one suffering with this. I mentioned it to a few women and all looked at me like I was crazy!

@camillaandcarson I'll try some of the remedies for my poor nose. Humidifier and Neti Pot are definitely doable.

Thank you all for the help! <3
  • I just had to go get new glasses. My prescription had significantly changed since August. My eye doctor told me that it was common in pregnancy, even though it didn't happen with DS. He also told me that there is a good chance that they'll get worse again right after baby girl is born. For now he recommended cheap frames and to wait to get the nicer glasses or contacts until my vision levels out again.

  • I'd love to get contacts but I'm going to follow suit and wait until after the baby is born.. I really hope it doesn't get worse :[
  • I haven't had any blurred vision outside of the norm, but I have been experiencing a lot of "light tracers" almost like I've gotten up too quickly. Just while sitting. I was driving to work the other day and had a streak of light flash in my right eye on and off for about 20 minutes. I called the dr about it and she said its from the increase in blood flow mixed with my BP change. She said nothing to worry about unless it doesn't go away. It's annoying and scary especially while driving!
