Short cervix

At my 20 week appointment last week my OB said everything looked fine except that my cervix was short. He has made me an appointment with a specialist this week, but never mentioned how short my cervix was. This is my first pregnancy and am only slightly panicking on the inside.
Anyone else experienced this? Or know anything?

    The soecialist will have better answers! I'm carrying twins so we have to be checked monthly for now by a specialist. So far things have been ok, but they also have things they can do if it's not!

    During my first pregnancy, at 23 weeks, I was told I had an extremely short cervix. I was admitted to the hospital right after my ultrasound appointment and ended up having to get an emergency cerclage. 

    Your OB is sending you to a specialist because your cervical length concerned him (or perhaps not the length, but the change in length from your last measurement). However, if your length was so short that it was a true emergency, your OB would NOT be waiting a week for you to see the specialist! Try to remain calm (I know it's hard) until you get more information.

    This makes me feel MUCH better. Throughout my pregnancy I've been trying to steer clear of the Internet, because I feel like it only makes you stress more when you could just focus on what your doctor is telling you.

    But when my doctor said my cervix was short I had 100% no idea what that meant and snooped around and found mostly scary stuff.

    So thank you again, my appt is tomorrow so the wait is almost over!

    Went and saw the specialist the other day, it was a loooong wait in the hospital, which is never fun, but the specialist was kind and informative. After my ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound she told me everything looked fine! No problems at all!

    What a relief!
