Anybody use the "I think I'm in labor," excuse?

Like when someone is blocking you in and you honk (politely) and they get mad, and get out of their car yelling and you just diffuse it by saying, "Yeah, thing is, I think in labor, soooo..."

It's super effective! I wouldn't use it to skip a line or if someone were being nice and polite, but when people are being rude or inconsiderate I kinda feel like they deserve it.

  • As far as the restroom people always ask if I'm okay and let me ahead even if I say that I'm okay to wait. It's like VIP access to a club. It's also nice when people offer their seats to me as well.
Ditto to using the excuse of labor if I ever get stopped by a cop!
  • I wonder if a cop would try to escort you to your destination or just tell you to take it slow. I've wondered about this since last pregnancy. I'm going to ask an officer at husbands work next time I see them.
  • I never used the excuse (unless I was actual in the hospital) but SO used "She thinks she's in labor" more than once to get away from family or to leave work early. Annoyed the crap out of me.

That would annoy me too, makes us sound like we're crying wolf all the time or being wimpy or something!

I've not had the opportunity to use the 'labour' excuse, and tbh the most I've gotten from strangers regarding being very pregnant is they hold doors for me. Nobody has let me in front in restroom lines or offered me a seat or helped me pick up something I drop. I'm ok with this as I don't feel I'm entitled to it, but it would have been nice!

Haha, excuse by proxy. SO might be toeing a fine line between convenient excuse and enraged pregnant lady. •_•
  • @arghhhhhhhhh the worst was when I went to the hospital at 37 weeks with contractions at 10:30 PM on a Sunday night. They monitored me, decided it was false labor, and sent me home. I was back in my bed at 2:00 AM. SO was too tired to go to work that day (he would have had to leave for work at 4:45) so he called in and used me "maybe being in labor" as an excuse. Well, his boss adores me and so decided that I needed to have SO close just in case, and gave him three days off! I was livid! We needed the money way more than I needed him making a mess around the house!

Not to mention, wouldn't that cut into any family leave or vacation he might have? (Not really sure how that works.)
  • No. It's unethical. I don't need that kind of bad karma lingering around right before I have a baby...
  • Nope Havnt used anything yet
