TTC After a Loss

Irregular AF after MC?

So at the end of august I miss carried at about 7 weeks, my HCG levels were at zero 48 hours after we found out and the bleeding only lasted about 4 or 5 days. I then went about 70 some days without any peiord. They put me on a 10 day cycle of progesterone which did the trick, but now I'm about 2 weeks late and still nothing... pregnancy tests were nagtive. So I'm just wondering if anyone else had has this happen / has advice, etc.

Thanks!

Re: Irregular AF after MC?

  • I'm very sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry for the problems you've had since with your cycle. :(

How do you know that you're late? Are you temping to confirm ovulation? If not, you likely ovulated (or will ovulate) later than normal, or are having an anovulatory cycle.

  • I second the advice on temping - I think there are a lot of great resources on it out there. On the off chance that you need some resources, I figure I'll post a few recommendations. A book that helped me a lot was Taking Control of Your Fertility (you'll see it referred to as TCOYF on the boards) - and the Fertility Friend app has a lot of information in it too.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I agree with PP's about temping. It's the best way to tell if you are late or what is your normal when it comes to ovulation.

After my first MC I had really irregular cycles. Following the last MC, my doctor put me on a BCP for 6 months to help regulate everything and allow the lady bits to recuperate. I haven't had any issue with irregularities since then. My cycles are back to their pre-MC norm.
  • I don't have any advice for you, but I want you to know you aren't alone. I had a mmc and d&c at 12w in late August. I bled for 2 weeks after the d&c, and there was no sign of flo for 12 weeks or so afterwards. I was put on progesterone in November because I still hadn't had a period. It worked so well I bled for 2 more weeks. My first natural cycle was 38 days later, and I'm waiting to see how long this next cycle is going to be. I haven't been temping, but from the suggestions it looks like I should try that next cycle.

Waiting sucks. I've never felt so helpless and out of control. I'm coming out of lurking to let you know that I understand where you are.
  • It isn't completely uncommon for anovulatory cycles that need to be ended by a cycle of Provera, to have a second anovulatory cycle follow. Call your doctor and let them know it looks like it might be happening again. I also echo the previous advice about tracking your BBTs. Long terms data charting can help identify potential issues and rule out others.

  • So sorry for your loss.  I think everyone is different, but cycle irreguarities can be quite common after a loss.  I only had 3 weeks before AF with my first loss, followed by a 12 day AF before things normalized.  Then 10 weeks without AF after my second loss, and things seemed to again normalize after that.  Hope you get some piece of mind soon.
