I keep forgetting to ask the doctor how long I will have to continue to test my blood sugar after the baby is born. Do any of you mommas with gd know the answer? Do we have to stick with the diet for a certain time post partum too?
Lurking from February. My OB said that I could stop monitoring as soon as baby is born. They'll check my blood glucose at my 6 week post partum appointment and my GP should check more often for type 2 from now on.
They should still check it in the hospital. I say that because GD sets you up to become a Type 2 diabetic and it doesn't end for everyone after pregnancy. I would check your blood sugar fasting or 2 hours post meal kind of at random to ensure for you it is gone. If you feel sick and nauseated, want to eat a ton, peeing a ton, needing to drink a ton, check your blood sugar. Those are signs of high blood sugar. I'm a type 1 diabetic.
I was told I could stop testing and dieting after baby was born. I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks and I will have to do a 2 hour glucose test as well to make sure I am back to normal. I haven't had any symptoms of extreme thirst or peeing often, etc. so hopefully all is well. When I was in labor they did check my blood sugar as well as they checked babies blood sugar a few times after she was born but her levels were good, thankfully!
Thanks ladies. I'll make sure to double check with my doctor at my next visit too. Every visit I seem more concerned with dilation and I keep forgetting to ask! I can't wait to stop testing 4 times a day!
