Too close?

Ariana is at the top of our girl name list, I've always loved it. My concern is that my best friends daughter is Adriana, and I'm thinking Ariana is way too close to her name. We see her all the time and she's very good friends with my daughter. What do you think? Too similar or ok?

I'd personally skip it if you are that close. I know no one owns a name, but I probably wouldn't do it unless I loved the name above all others and it was my grandmother's name.

I'd skip it. Unless it truly means that much to you. And if you friend is indeed that close, maybe talk to her about it to get her read. Maybe she would be flattered.

I guess I'm in the minority but I'd use the name you love. First of all they are just similar, and people end up with the same names all the time. What if your friend moves? What if your daughter (whatever her name ends up being) becomes bffs with another girl of the same name in school? You just can't predict these things and you don't want to regret not using the name you loved. Just my 2 cents!
ETA: I bet if you told your friend about your concerns she would tell you to use the name you liked, I cannot imagine telling my friend not to use a name because it's similar to my childs name.

My mom actually loved my best friends name, Jenavieve, while we were growing up. When my parents decided to have another baby when we were in kindergarten she asked my friends mom how to spell it, and named the other twin Jacqueline. Nobody died or cared in the slightest.

It depends how much you love it. Talk to her about it ahead of time but if she's your best friend it should be a non issues. Personally, I think you could do better.
