Trouble TTC

New here, loss mentioned

Hello I am new to this page after being on TTC over 35 for the past year. We have been trying for 15 months, with one miscarriage last year. My doctor just started testing, blood work for me and a "sample" from my husband. He suggested, depending on the results, trying IUI. I just called my insurance carrier and they do not cover any fertility treatments. Does anyone know what the general cost of IUI is? I know I can ask at my next appointment but that's not for a month.

  • I am not sure of the cost, so I am no help there but usually if you call the billing department they can give you an estimate.  When I was schedule for an HSG I called the billing department asking for a quote and they took my insurance information and was able to give me the estimated cost of the test and what insurance may cover.

  • It depends on the office.  I know at the RE office I go to it is about $500.00 for the IUI.  The bloodwork and follicle scans was not included.
  • You can schedule an appointment with the billing person at the clinic to go over costs. We did, but they didn't really go over the costs of bloodwork and follicle scans, which were like $400/month. I know costs vary depending on where you live, but be warned, it's expensive! We did all the testing and bloodwork (HSG, SHG, letrezole, metformin, ultra sounds to measure follicles, and bloodwork to check hormones). Our insurance covered about 60%, and we've spent about $3000 over 4 or 5 months. We didn't even end up going with IUI, just timed intercourse. But I'm 31, so trying to hold off a couple years before we do IUI and keep trying TI with meds.
