I understand what the causes of baby diarrhea are, but I'm not sure what is happening. My baby started supplemented formula this week since I went back to work. I'm able to pump enough to give him 2 bottles of breast milk a day, but he usually needs a third bottle of just formula (and sometimes also a bottle of mixed milk/formula.) He's been ok all week. Then on Friday he had a BM in the morning and didn't poop again until late Saturday afternoon at which point it was diarrhea. He's had diarrhea ever since. I also woke up suddenly around 5am (was fine at the 2am feeding) throwing up. I was throwing up and nauseous all day and am fine today. I don't know if it was food poisoning or a 24 hour stomach bug. Do you think the formula or the sickness was more likely the cause of diarrhea? Would it be just the addition of formula and it'll work itself out or is possible he's allergic to it? He's not at all fussy or crying over this. He's had gas but no more than usual. I'm thinking a trip to the pediatrician's might be needed on this, but it would be nice to have some advice, too. Anyone else have the same experience?
Re: Diarrhea cause?
If he is pooping more often, he probably caught something. You should probably call your pedi.
We have just started to transition to formula over the last three weeks or so, adding in one bottle of formula a week. For the past 3 days he's gone down to two poops a day from about 3-5, and they are looser. How long did your LO's tummies take to adjust? He has an appointment next week but I thought I'd start here first. Also, doesn't seem unhappy or uncomfortable, maybe a tad extra gassy.
