Weight gain.

My weight gain has been pretty low to average until now. It seems as though I hit 25 weeks and have been gaining more steadily! Up 5 lbs in the past 2 weeks. No swelling. Just feeling fat! :( 27 wks +3 right now & up 16 so far. Anyone else have a weight spurt around now??! Going for the glucose test next week.

Re: Weight gain.

  • If you aren't stuffing your face with the idea "I'm eating for two" crap, then your body will gain what it needs. 16 lbs isn't really even that much.

My cousin has gained 33 so far and she is as far along as you, she eats fine, and started 105 pre pregnancy. I keep assuring her it's just her body doing what it needs to do.

  • Yup I'm on exactly the same boat. I gained nothing in first tri and early second tri... Started to gain very slowly after 20 weeks, and from 24 to 28 weeks I gained 11 pounds!

  • With my first pregnancy and this one, I had a big second tri jump in the early-mid 20s weeks. In my first pregnancy it was a 13 lb climb, and this time it was 8 or 9 lbs. I'm eating a little better this time and am more active, but a big jump in the 20s is common, as that is when baby really starts to resemble a baby...adding on body fat etc. That's why most people have round ligament pains a lot during this time...lots of growing! A good rule of thumb is, if your doctor is not concerned and the weight gain is not effecting the health of you or the baby, you should trust that the body is doing what it needs to do.

  • It would be nice if pregnancy weight gain was always a gradual, predictable, and even increase, but pretty much everyone has spurts.

This!! Don't fixate on your weight gain. It sounds like you're aware of your body and what you're eating. Exercise, eat healthy, and listen to your body. It will gain what it needs to. Its a hard thing to surrender to because everyone and every body is different, so ultimately we all compare our experiences to others. Some weeks you will gain more than others. Here's a calculator (based on your pre-pregnancy weight, how far along you are, and how tall you are) to determine your healthy weight gain range per week: https://www.calculator.net/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator.html , if you need a little more peace of mind.

  • Ugh I hate these type of posts. We all gain weight differently. All this post accomplished was making ppl who have gained more or less than you worry about themselves. Talk to your doctor if you're concerned.
  • No need to be snotty.

Thank you for posting this. It did give me peace of mind to know that although I AM within a healthy range for weight gain, I am at the very top, so I know there are some concessions I need to make to maintain for health.
  • I don't mind these type of posts. I honestly think we wouldn't be as paranoid about weight gain if doctors didn't harp on it ad nauseum. I know not all doctors do, but some obsess too much over reasonable weight gain, I know mine does, and all that does is make women unnecessarily worried about weight, whether its too little, too much, or if they are right on track. All I'm saying is I can sympathize with posters who are worried about their weight gain.

What you're describing is an accurate account of pregnancy weight gain.  You typically should start gaining more the further you're along because the baby is doubling, then tripling in size.
You're gaining what your baby needs to sustain proper growth.
