I just started re-reading the series a couple of days ago so now I am all mopey every time that Snape is mentioned. I see a HP movie marathon this weekend.
Last night we just finished reading the first Harry Potter book to our son, and he's looking forward to seeing the movie. So sad to hear he passed away.
I posted in the "Things that make me cry" thread, but I was actually late for work today because I was ugly-crying so hard at the news. I LOVE Alan Rickman in everything and was beyond stoked when he was cast as Snape. As a HUGE HP fan, I felt that he was the perfect person to play such a complex and multi-faceted role. He could be nasty and slimy, but then suddenly sympathetic and then heroic. His voice, his presence, his acting style all make him an absolute icon and I am just a mess. I actually called MH and sobbed about it and he tentatively asked, "Did you...know him? Like, was he in a theater group you were in or something?"
@laurenmdrn16 I haven't cried...yet. My H is kind of the same as yours. I told him this morning that he died and he was like, wait...who? I looked at him and just said SNAAAAAAPE!!!! Our H's just don't get it!

I've slowly converted DH to a Harry Potter lover. It took years but I think I've succeeded! He actually called me this morning to tell me. He really was such an amazing actor even outside of HP.
Kind of weird though that he and David Bowie both just died at the age of 69. Too young!
My DH was like 'shame baby, are you ok?'. My mom was very upset - in the family I grew up, we had 4 sets of the books (my parents shared). We were (are) a bit obsessed with the franchise.
Such sad news. If you can find it, I recommend watching a movie called "Truly, Madly, Deeply". I think it came out in the 90's but it's such a good movie. Romantic comedy and a pretty good tear-jerker as well.

I can't imagine a world without both of them in it.
Huh, I must have some strange affinity for deep-voiced, dark haired actors in nerdy series...Someone make sure Adam Driver is ok!
