Cecilia?

I really love the name Cecilia. We are considering spelling it Cecilja because that is the spelling in DH's native country. Not sure on that though because we have a random J in our last name too, so it might be too much. DH is semi on board with the name. His reservation is that he thinks its a little clunky to say with all the syllables. This doesn't bother me because I love long feminine names with lots of syllables and vowels lol. I guess we could use a nickname, but I really hate Cece, which seems to be the most common. Thoughts on Cecilia and any suggestions for nicknames?

Re: Cecilia?

  • Love Cecilia. Probably wouldn't put the J in there if you live in the US, it will plague her for forever unfortunately. No one will ever get it right. I think she will likely be called Cece (and she may like that NN even if you don't). Other NNs could be Celia or Lia.

  • I love Cecelia. My grandmas name was Cecile and grandpa always called her Celia.

I wouldn't do the j with there being a random j in the last name too
  • I love it without the j and I love the nickname Ceely (see-lee)

  • Love it! a cute nn is Celia, you might like it better than Cece.
  • I'm not sure about using Celia as a nickname since it is an actual name itself. They sound almost too similar to be a nickname and I don't like it as much as Cecilia.
  • Cecilia is gorgeous.

  • I like the name, no J. You could also go with Ceil (seal).

  • I like Cecelia, wouldn't do the j spelling though.
  • The j does look awkward. I wouldn't want people to think we were trying to be you-neek.

Great name, amazing song. Good choice. If you live in the states, I think leaving the an out will save a lot of grief.

Cecily might be an option with one less syllable he'd compromise on.

    Nn option Lily.
  • Love it! My DD's middle name is Cecile after a French relative. So yeah I think it's beautiful & I would also encourage going with your cultural spelling! Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians as well which is cool!
  • Another vote for Yes on Cecelia (no j).
  • Love Cecilia. No J.

  • Love the name. With or without the J. Nick name could be Lia (lee-ah)
  • Love Cecelia.....not hate the J added in there. People will always think that it is a typo if they are reading the name.

  • I like Celia for a nickname! Good alternative since you don't like Cece
It doesn't bother me that Celia is an actual name by itself.
  • I like it! It makes me think of the Paul Simon song :)
