I would still go. Take precautions. Use bug spray. Stay out of bio bays and other places that attract mosquitos. You can't live your life in fear of something that MIGHT happen
I posted about this in another thread, but we were scheduled to leave for Puerto Rico next Friday. Last week my doctor said it was ok to go, but at my appointment this morning they suggested we rebook elsewhere since more details have emerged and the potential risk doesn't outweigh the benefit for us. They provided a doctor's note and our airline is waiving all of the fees pending receipt of the letter.
It's a personal choice at this stage so no judgement if anyone else decides to keep their trip booked, but the whole point of the trip is to relax (our first trip away from DS!) and spend time together. I know myself, the minute I got a mosquito bite I would start worrying, which defeats the purpose of the trip for us.

I'm not a fear monger, but I also don't ignore the CDC. The uptick in these serious birth defects is not a small amount. We're talking incidents of maybe 150 a year to over 1,000, with possibly growing numbers. Given, they haven't put out an official advisory, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do soon. I can't imagine the guilt of ignoring this warning and if something did happen.
Obviously I don't want to tell anyone else what to do -- there are a lot of factors that would have to go into assessing anybody's personal risk (where exactly you're going, what you're planning to do, how far along you are in the pregnancy [since it sounds like the biggest risk is in the first trimester and we're all well past that], etc.) -- but for me it would be worrisome because this is such a new thing, there's currently no cure or treatment, and the mechanism by which pregnancies affected is very poorly understood, so it's hard to make an accurate estimation of your risk.
Plus on a personal level I just have a particular fear of brain damage. It's my #1 terror for things that could go wrong, so I tend to alert immediately to anything that might be associated with that.
Anyway, hopefully the article doesn't cause anybody undue worry, but that's why I figured I'd pass it along.

I hear ya... I think the thing for me is that I was in PR when that other mosquito born virus was rampant two years ago ( sorry can't think of the name of it now). Mosquitos love me. If there is one in a 10 mile radius, they find me. I was there for a week and protected myself and used common sense with skin exposure. And not one bite. So I guess I gives me a false sense of security??? Maybe if I actually had plans to go somewhere, I would see this differently. Especially being pregnant.
Re: CDC Considering Warning Pregnant Women Against Zika Virus
Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Suriname and Venezuela.
Wanted to post as it seems a lot of countries in the Carribean haven't been affected.
