Hormonal Acne blues

Hello Ladies,

I am currently almost 11 weeks along and wanting to kill my skin. I have super sensitive skin that is acne prone. I have nailed down my face regiment to where my skin is good. However, I have started to break out on my back, shoulder & chest! It is more just little red spots or small white heads, but it makes me feel so unattractive. It was mostly on just my back & shoulder, but recently since I started using treatments on my chest/stomach to (hopefully) prevent stretch marks, I have started to break out on my chest.

Does anyone else has this obnoxious issue? It's fine right now while it's freezing cold, but once summer humidity comes, I want to be able to wear the tank tops/dresses without feeling super self conscious of my skin. I know it's such a vain issue.

Any advice on how to combat this or any skincare what won't clog my pores, but help with skin elasticity?

  • I had a little with DD1 during my pregnancy....1month after delivery my face EXPLODED with acne. It was SO bad I was embarrassed to leave my house. I actually had a little kid say "what's wrong with you face?"... :o( It sucks. But, mine cleared up perfectly after I went back on BC. Hoping the same doesn't happen this time around

  • Try coconut oil. It will moisturize your skin but should also help with the acne. It's what I use on my face and like yourself I used to be very prone to breakouts. I apply it and very lightly wipe off any excess. I sometimes add tea tree oil or frankincense.
  • Have you tried using a good exfoliator on your back/chest area to remove the dead skin cells than applying some kind of treatment cream? I do that then follow up with my acne regimen. I know my skin seems to be flaking and shedding more than usual, so keeping on top of the exfoliation has been key for me so it doesn't clog my pores.

  • 1st week in my 2nd trimester right now and it seems to be calming down. Mine was really bad. Cystic and painful. It's now just blotchy and able to cover with make up. I'll take it.
  • Last pregnancy mine went away in the second trimester (my skin cleared up and my hair got really thick). This time my skin was really bad again, but it seems to be clearing up slowly now at 11 weeks.
  • I've been experiencing this. @mumblefrog86 I've been calling mine chestne too! Its driving me crazy. I've always had dry skin, but now i have bumps all around the edge of my face and blemishes across my chest, boobs, and slowly going down my abdomen. I hate this! Thanks, hormones.
  • My back totally broke out during 1st trimester with DD. I also got a weird rash on my face and covered me like a beard. Terrible. I have pretty sensitive skin but I've never had issues with breakouts or acne before pregnancy. I starting using an exfoliating body wash (I think neutrogena pink grapefruit) and exfoliating gloves and it helped make it a little better. I used super moisturizing masques for the face rash once a week. It totally cleared up by 2nd trimester once the hormones calmed down.

  • I'm broke out over my chin, scalp, neck, chest and back. It's ridiculous I hope it clears up soon! I feel your pain!
  • I'm in the same boat. Nothing has helped me so far. Just keeping it in perspective. I don't mind if I have acne if it means I have my little one. :) it's worth it.
  • I started getting persistent acne along my jaw line since the pregnancy. Are there safe acne products to use during pregnancy?

I am 18 weeks tomorrow and unfortunately mine has just gotten worse in the second trimester. I have some super attractive chestne and a pimple beard going on. Hope you ladies find more relief as your pregnancies progress, I fear mine is just starting!
  • I'm just now experiencing this on my back! I've never had 'backne' before so this is new! One of the reasons I first suspected I was pregnant was because I broke out like crazy. It has since cleared up minus my back!

  • I've never had much acne and when I did break out pre pregnancy it was only on my chin. Now it's on my forehead, jaw, cheeks, back.. Everywhere!
  • @jjang27 Yes there are safe products. Just run whatever you are thinking about using by your OB. I did that with mine and she ok'd all of my normal products.

  • Thanks for the support ladies! It has since mostly cleared up, but just left some acne scars which I'll take over the acne any day!

I tell you, pregnancy brings out the sexiest of symptoms

  • Hadn't had any issues until 3rd trimester, it's been such a joy! With DD I was broken out the entire time, so I can complain too much about only experiencing the last of this pregnancy!
  • With DD my skin was perfect and glowing.  This time it's been super oily and I have the occasional breakout on my back, chest and/or neck near my ears.  It's really annoying, but just a minor inconvenience while I cook this little boy nugget <3

  • Ugh, my back has gotten so horrible the past month - coated in red bumps like a teenage boy, and even some bigger cystic lesions.  Gross.  Any recommendations for bacne??  I've had to buy larger bras to hold up these new ginormous boobs I've grown, so I'm thinking the wider strap (and humid weather) has something to do with it.  I am so jealous of all you girls whose skin has cleared up!
