Teething

I'm a FTM, My daughter is 3 months, and she's starting to drool and gets frustrated with the bottle and starts screaming any time she's trying to take the bottle. We've gone to level 2 nipples but she seems in pain. She also eating her hands.. Could she be teething this soon?

Re: Teething

  • I think it's possible, but unlikely.  Teeth can come in as early as 4 months (and the signs of teething show up long before bumps break through the gums) but typically 6 months or later is when babies get their first teeth.  My 1st was still toothless on her first birthday.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • I agree very unlikely. DS did get his first 2 teeth right at 4 months and everyone, including the pedi, commented how early they came in.
Drooling and sucking on hands is normal baby behavior at this age.

  • I asked the same thing to our pediatrician since my son has been drooling A LOT and chewing on his pacifier. He's barely 9 weeks but they said its possible he'll teeth early, just not anytime soon. apparently they start showing signs WAY before the teeth actually come out.
  • Can I ask why you went to the level 2 nipples? In my mind I would think that's too fast still (and the level 2 nipples I have say for 4-8 months)... Could she be screaming because the milk is coming too fast?
  • My pedi said the earliest she has ever seen a tooth come in was 2.5 months, so it's possible but very rare. She did tell me he would start drooling a lot at 3 months.

  • My daughter drooled a ton for months and didn't get her first tooth until a few weeks before her 1st birthday.
Drooling isn't necessarily a sign of teething.
  • Also, I was told by my pediatrician that teething is basically an ongoing thing. A baby can be teething, but not actually have teeth reach the surface from that bout of teething, they may just be coming closer to the surface. Apparently. I mean, in theory that makes sense to me, I'd just never heard that before.

With that said, it's still early for teething. It's not impossible, but it isn't super likely.
