Lakes of barf

My baby has this thing about spitting up on her back. She isn't in danger. She always turns her head and sleeps with her head turned to the side. The problem is that she soaks her sheets and jammies. And then either fusses from cold or just sleeps through it which is worse.

I'm changing a lot of sheets at night IF I catch it. Which I don't always because she's a silent barfer.

Any solutions for this? I hate that she sometimes sleeps in spit up. Breaks my heart.

My LO does the same. I put her in those wearable blankets so I know that even if she sleeps in her spit up, it won't soak through the blanket. My daughter sleeps in a rock n play which is at a slight incline. This has helped. Perhaps you could get a wedge for your crib so that she spits up less?

  • This is the same reason I sleep with her on my chest she spits up if she's flat on her back, sometimes I'll put a receiving blanket underneath so it doesn't get the sheets. I have her wearing bibs but i don't think I'd feel safe with her sleeping in one. Not good ideas other than they do grow out of this.
  • Are you able to get a good burp after feedings? I find if I don't get a burp, she'll spit up a LOT in one shot.
  • DS vomited a lot in the first few months until we figured things out. They started it in the hospital so at home in just continued to spread out a cloth diaper under his head. The diaper absorbed everything and kept him pretty dry. Later in his crib we used a soaker pad the same way that you can tie the corners to the crib bars so they don't get tangled up in it rolling around.

Burping is going better now than it did. I sit her on my lap or on the nursing pillow and bounce her. But even when she lets out a good belch or two, she's still spitting up a lot once she's on her back.

This is a great idea! I was looking for some solution like this. In the evenings when she's lounging and listening to music or books, I put a burp cloth under her head to catch anything she ralphs up. But i had no nighttime solutions. She's in a bassinet still so the soaker pad might be a perfect option as it can be tucked around the mattress.

How long are you keeping her upright after feeding? DD has terrible acid reflux and gas so I have to keep her upright during feedings and for a half hour afterwards. We keep a cloth diaper in her bassinet under her head so if she spits up you just have to replace the cloth not the whole sheet.

  • We're still using the RnP this time, but with DS I used a product called a sheet save(r). They tie to the crib and we used 2 next to each other - one for spit up and one for diaper disasters. I had a total of 4, so changing them out wasn't such a laundry burden in the middle of the night. Pretty sure Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us carry them. Good luck!
