August 2016 Moms

So, I fell

On my way back from lunch at work today I slipped on ice outside and fell on my butt! I mainly hit my left upper buttox right by the tailbone. I immediately called my OB who assured me everything is probably fine and I could come in for a check if it would make me feel better but it is really unlikely this would hurt the baby and any checking would mainly be for my anxiousness. I'm about 11 weeks (almost). I'm at work about 40 minutes from my OB so decided to not go in for a check. He seemed more than okay with that decision. I feel okay, just a little sore on the butt. Any second third fourth etc time Mommas out there take a fall in early pregnancy. What did your health care provider tell you to do?

Re: So, I fell

  • Unless there's any extreme cramping or bleeding, you're probably just fine. Baby is so small and tucked away, it's hard to hurt it at this point, especially with a fall on your butt. I wouldn't worry. I fell lots with my first, always on my butt though, and never had any issues. Winter in Alaska is tough.

  • Same thing happened with my DS when I was about 8 weeks. My doc also said the same thing- if I felt better to come in I could but the baby was super protected in there. I didn't go in, and all was fine! Very scary tho!

  • I fell at 16 weeks. I went in for a check and all was good. It's very hard to hurt the baby with a fall at this point. If a scan would make you feel better though, go for it.
  • I fell yesterday. I didn't call my OB because I fell on my knee and elbow and had no cramping or bleeding. LO is well protected behind your pubic bone at this point.
  • I fell down a few steps this past weekend but honestly absorbed most of it on my arm and bum, agree with others that baby is pretty protected in there, so unless you had direct trauma to the stomach/pelvic area or are experiencing cramping or spotting you are probably fine like the doctor said.
  • When I was 28ish weeks pregnant with DD I fell square on my rump on a patch of ice while walking our dogs. I didn't call the OB or go in because I didn't have any cramping or spotting. I wouldn't worry too much!

  • Fell down some stairs the other day, it was very scary, had an appointment a few days later and everything was fine. I was very anxious afterwards too. Hope everything is okay with you, love!
  • I had a fall on snow and fell on my butt as well butt was sore but as long as no bleeding with it your are just fine don't worry
  • Just ice yourself if you can to avoid a bruise. I fell at 20 weeks with my first and tore two tendons in my ankle. They were far more worried about getting me into a boot than they were about the baby.
