It really depends on where you live, but in many places daycare spots fill up really fast!
When I was pregnant with DS, we were told to look early. We started looking around 4 months, thinking that was plenty early - I wouldn't need daycare for another 8 months. As I called around to all the different centers, I was greeted with wait lists almost everywhere. We ended up sending DS to a daycare that was not at the top of our list and then switching to our first choice 3 months later. With this child, I didn't want the hassle of daycare wait lists. We love our current center and want to stay with it. Yesterday I told the daycare office to be able to reserve a spot and we got wait listed. I will need a spot in December and they won't have an opening in the infant room until early February. It's never too early to look into daycare!
Re: It's never too soon to start thinking about daycare!
We went with a daycare center. There is more security (nervous new mom) and there is always someone there, the babysitter cannot cancel due to a sick day. It is more pricey and we had to provide our own food.
Now DD is at an in home daycare that we love. There are up to 4 adults that work at the home, so I don't have to worry about sick days but they do take a week family vacation in summer I have to work around. The price is 1/2 than a daycare center. They provide all of the food and drinks. So new baby will be going here. I told them that we were trying and then told them we are finally pregnant, so they can expect a new baby in December.
