Return Insurance Breast Pump

So I got the prescription for a breast pump from my doctor on Thursday. I asked his secretary which pharmacy to take it to, so they gave me the name of a small local pharmacy. I took my RX there, gave my info, and they told me they needed to fax a title 19 to my doc and they would call me when that was done. I figured I would get a choice of what they had in stock, or at least be told which one I would be receiving when they called.

Well today I get a call from some guy who works for the pharmacy telling me he's at my door with the breast pump. He said aparently that pharmacy only carries one brand. I didn't really think about it..signed a paper, took the pump, and he left. He left me with a Mediquip drive double electric pump. I googled reviews and the few I found basically said its terrible and not very functional. It got 1/5 stars on Amazon and can't find much else on it..I'm guessing because it's an off brand.

Now I was told by my insurance that they cover Mandela double electrics..and I'm guessing probably other known pumps as well.

I'm worried that this pump won't work well based off the reviews, and I think it's something that I will be using quite often once my LO gets here. Is it too late to take it back to the pharmacy and try and get one from another pharmacy that has a selection? Idk if I can do that since they already have the title 19.. Am I being too pretentious about this? Should I just wait and see how it works? I just don't want it to be as crappy as the reviews say and have to pay out of pocket for a different one.

Re: Return Insurance Breast Pump

  • To be honest, I have no idea. I didn't know anything about even going through a pharmacy. I went through the number in the Babies R us information.I called, they e-mailed me what my insurance covered, I picked the one I wanted, and it was on my step the next day. I would see if you can return it and try something different.

  • I know the one I received says right on it that it cannot be returned but I wonder if that's only if it is opened. I'd start there and see if you can return it if its unopened since there was a misunderstanding and just explain what happened, it cant hurt. I agree that an off brand would make me a bit uneasy and prefer a more known brand, just for things as simple as ease of finding replacement parts at local stores etc. Good luck!
  • I'd call your insurance.... Also google AeroFlow sign up with them for a pump same thing as going through a pharmacy with an rx. They call you the next day the process is so easy! AeroFlow wont send you one with approval from your insurance.... Worst case they say no...but worth a shot to get a better pump
  • Contact your insurance company and see what they say.

  • The pump I got through my insurance has "Not Returnable" stamped on it in about 6 different places. I am unsure if you will be able to send it back. If you got a Rx through your doctor he has most likely already billed the insurance company, so I would start with them. Call up your provider and see what they say.

  • it's worth a try.  especially if it's unopened.  the breast pump that you use can make a really big difference in your milk supply. Since milk is supply and demand, if the pump has very weak suction, your breast may be fooled into thinking baby doesn't drink much and your supply may suffer.
