Period like cramping and lower back pain

Hi all! I'm new to this message board thing so let me thank everyone in advance for their responses and patience! I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant with my first. I had my first appointment yesterday. Everything checked out fine and I even got to see my little one on ultrasound and hear the heartbeat. 162!. On and off from the start of this I have had period like cramping that's not content but some days I'll have it pretty often and others not at all. I have had chronic lower back pain pretty much as long as I can remember. Today my lower back is bothering me..and I have those annoying cramps again. I guess I'm just nervous about the combination of both. Has anyone else had these symptoms this early in their pregnancy and everything turn out ok? I'm not experiencing any bleeding or terribly painful cramps.

Re: Period like cramping and lower back pain

  • What did the doctor day yesterday?
Cramping, stretching and slight pains are completely normal.
No bleeding or unbearable pain is a good sign.

  • Well my back wasn't hurting yesterday. But made no big deal of the mild cramping.
  • I had mild cramping around that time. I was so concerned that I actually called the doctor. She actually said, "it feels like your period is going to start any minute right? That's totally normal". Obviously your experience may differ and I would encourage you to call your doctor if you continue to have cramping, but it very well may be normal.

  • I had cramping (no bleeding), and lower back pain from week 5 until week 10. I am just over 12 weeks now. Your uterus is going through a lot of changes, and growing larger, so cramping is usually normal (as long as there is no bleeding).

  • Totally normal. Went through that exact same thing with my first pregnancy. As long as there is no bleeding, I wouldn't worry. You can take tylenol and use heating packs on your back. Thermacare makes this awesome large pack that stays hot for like a day! Good Luck to you!

  • Thank you all!
  • Did they do any kind of internal checking? That can also cause cramping
