IVF After Repeat Pregnancy Loss

Hi ladies,

I am in my first IVF cycle after three early losses (unexplained). My doctor recommended IVF with PGD, but I am leaning towards trying this IVF cycle without it. It's costly and more invasive, and, I don't know-- I am just overwhelmed by it. I've read about many women who suffered from RPL who went the PGD/PGS route, but I am wondering if there are any of you out there who did NOT go PGD/PGS and still had success with IVF on its own. If so, please leave me with whatever insight you may have. I'd greatly, greatly appreciate it.

After many IVF losses due to embryo quality, DOR, and possibly age we used CCS this last cycle, which is my clinic's version of PGS, with a later FET. It looks like you are pretty young, have you had testing to see why you keep having losses? What are your day 3 labs, have you had a hysteroscopy to check your uterus, etc.? Wishing you well in your decisions.

@efhoping2010 I've had a complete RPL panel, an HSG and waterultrasound, and pretty much all other tests I am aware of-- nothing. And, with all three early losses, we couldn't test any tissue, so those are mysteries, although my RE is assuming chromosomal/genetic abnormalities.

Hi Kelly, I'm sorry you're in the place you are. I read your blog post about your IF journey and my heart is breaking for you. Your story sounds very similar to my sisters (whose name also happens to be Kelly). She's had 3 losses from natural conception in the past 2 years. 2 of her 3 were from chromosome issues and all happened around the 7-10 week mark. She went to RE and they said ivf with PGS testing like yours said. She's done 3 rounds and 3 egg retrievals only to have a total of 4 embryos to send to testing. They got the results a few weeks ago and not one of he embryos was viable for a transfer. Every one of them had something chromosomally wrong with it. I realize your question is about doing ivf without the PGS testing but the reason I'm telling you this story is because all of my sisters testing and labs are normal as well and the only way she knew about the issues with her eggs was with the testing. If she hadn't done the PGS testing and transferred one of those embryos she would have gone through the ivf, gotten pregnant again and then had another loss.
So for yourself I guess you have to know what your heart can handle. If you can go through the ivf process knowing that it could result the same as your other pregnancies then go for it. If you're someone who likes to know the best possible odds of what you can control then I'd say pay the extra money (I realize it's thousands of dollars) and do the PGS testing.

@NB817 Wow. Your sister and I do sound like we are in quite the similar situations. You've certainly given me a lot to consider and weigh out, but you brought some really good points to the table for me. Thank you. Now, I have a lot to decide.
