High-Risk Pregnancy

Another preeclampsia question.

So I recently found out I was pregnant again. I'm around 17 weeks.
My last pregnancy at 37 weeks I realized I was in labor around midnight, went to my OB at 9 the next morning. They tested my bp and it was high compared to usual and had been the last visit...didn't pay much attention to the contractions. When they checked for protein it was 3+. I had also been experiencing severe headaches ( days at a time), swelling and vomiting. They sent me to the hospital and had a surgeon on standby but the hospital released me after hours. I ended up coming back 2 hours later with painful contractions and had my baby.
They didn't really give me an explanation for the protein ect. Now that Im pregnant again I've started getting headaches again and my ankles and shins are already swelling quite noticeably.
Should I be extra concerned about preeclampsia even though I wasn't diagnosed?

Re: Another preeclampsia question.

  • I wouldn't be "extra concerned." Just make sure that your doctors know about your history with the first. They will monitor you for all of that closely any way.  I have seen pre-E as early as 28 weeks but not before as a labor and delivery nurse. The headache and ankle swelling at this point are probably just normal pregnancy symptoms as long as your b/p is normal. Hope that helps :)

I figured I was probably being overly concerned. I was scared to get pregnant again because of the last pregnancy but it gives me hope that this time around will be a better experience.
