Low placenta?

Hi, ladies!

My placenta was very close to my cervix at my 20 wk scan so I had an u/s yesterday to rule out previa. The tech couldn't share any info with me and I need to wait "3 business days" for my midwife to get their report. So all I can do at this point it wait...and wonder.

Here is what I know based on yesterday's scan:
My placenta is anterior, the baby's head is down, and the placenta is pictured in front of baby's face. In one picture it's actually blocking the whole top half of baby's face and all you can make out is a cute little mouth.

Here is my question:
If baby's head is down and the placenta is in front of baby's face, wouldn't that mean that the placenta is still quite low? Or is it normal for the placenta to be near the face at this point in pregnancy (I'm 35 wks)?

I realize that I'll know for sure in a couple of days but I can't help but wonder. If anyone has any experience with this, please share :)

    Honestly I have no idea exactly the specifics. You just have to patiently wait. But at 19 weeks when I had my anatomy scan my placenta was next to my cervix. It was not blocking it at all but they wanted to watch it. It moved up at my next ultrasound and it is not an issue. I was told that most of the time the placenta moves up.

    I had a low placenta at 18 weeks and again at 28 weeks. My next will be at 36 weeks and my OB is optimistic but I feel like it should have moved already if it was going to. Not sure about it blocking the face, we had clear images. Good luck waiting!

    I got cleared at 34 weeks for a vaginal delivery (switched from anterior low lying to anterior). From what I can remember, the placenta was near her face and the tech pointed out the tip of the placenta. Since she could visualize it from an abdominal ultrasound she said didn't have to do a transvaginal ultrasound to get the measurement because it was clearly far enough away from my cervix. I think my baby is relatively high still, so I'm not sure if that's actually helpful for you. Good luck!! I'm sure the wait is awful!
