September 2016 Moms

Whoops! Let it slip.

I've been having some non-pregnancy related issues. I got a urinalysis result back today and it was high in ketones and proteins. I was explaining this to my mom and I said something like "Well, the internets said that proteins could be from kidney problems or diabetes or even pregnancy (I geuss that would make sense) ..." and I continued rambling on about ketones.

All of the sudden my mom blurts out, "Did you just tell me that you were pregnant!?"

Me:

I tried to play it off like I didn't understand her, but I couldn't recover. I feel bad, that's not exactly how I wanted her to find out. And she wasn't excited (which I expected) but at least the cat's out of the bag.

There's my awkward story. I bet y'all will have much more glamorous and exciting ways of telling your family. :)

  • Haha!! That's great! I totally see myself doing something like this with someone (probably not my mom but someone). I already had to dodge a conversation with my mom about it since she's a nurse and works in the maternity field so any little thing that hints at me being ku she starts asking questions. I really wish she would just let it be and let me tell her when I'm ready.

Wasn't excited, our mothers must be the same!   I was so scared to tell my mom.  I was 17 when I had my 1st and 34 now and I think I was more scared this go around than when I was 17.  She didn't say Congrats or anything.   What she did say was "well looks like you need a bigger house now."

I'm sorry she wasn't excited.  Hopefully when we are farther along they do get excited about it.

  • I haven't told my mom yet, but every time I tell her we are trying she tells me that one is enough :|

My mom is exactly the same! She loves kids and has told me that she hopes we have one soon but I'm still her baby and she gets worried. Last month when we had our chemical and didn't know any better to wait to tell the news, I told her almost immediately. Of course I waited until the worst possible moment. We were having an emotional conversation about an argument between her and my grandmother and in between tears ( hers and mine) I just blurted out " I'm pregnant" and with her concerned mom face on she said "oh! Is that good?" Needless to say around the time the pregnancy ended she was starting to come around.

I'm sorry it wasn't the reaction we all kind of hope for even if we may know it won't be that way.
  • My folks were super excited for my first, and I think they will be excited but a bit cautious this go-round as I had some pretty rough post partum anxiety last time and they were, obviously, very concerned for me. I'm much more ready for it all this time around and more in tune with early signs to seek help so here's hoping!

  • Telling my mom is something I'm fearing. She didn't want me to have any kids. I never told her I was pregnant with DS until I was almost 20 weeks. She said "no wonder your pants don't fit". She had bought some cute jeans for me and when I tried them on (about a month earlier) they were tight. So, with me being so adamant on being done with one, she's probably going to have the same reaction.

With DF I didn't mean to just blurt it out. But I did. He was hounding me why I didn't get myself a bottle of wine for the NYE party we were going to. I tried to just play it off. But couldn't find a good excuse. He was just as shocked as I was when I got that instant line.

My mom knows, I texted her a pic of the pee stick. That's how my dad found out. He and mom switched phones. They're so weird; they're both excited which is cool but not pushy which is awesome.

But can I just say I LOVE THAT GIF!!!

  • Ha, thanks. I knew she would be like that. I think she's excited somewhere deep, deep inside. She's worried about me (because I struggle with anxiety/depression, especially during pregnancy). She's not good at being caught off guard either, lol.

My MIL made up for it though. She was psyched. :)
