38+3 = Massive diarrhea for me!

As the title states ... going into the 31st hour.

No matter what I eat / drink / look at, I'm back in the saddle shortly thereafter.

I called my midwife around the 27th hour as this is highly uncommon for me as someone who is normally quite constipated ... unless I have a bug and no other symptoms of one, it looks like my body is just doing me a solid in the most unsolid way imaginable before labour starts! Back pain has been present alongside it for the ride!

I might actually have to open some baby butt cream before baby gets here .. I'm more sore in the rear than I remember being in the front after childbirth!

Any suggestions on ways to combat the frequent trips?
Or the pain associated with?
Or a "hang in there, I was like that just before we got our baby too!?
:)

  • TMI warning....,I didn't have it for 30 something hours yesterday but I did have it. It was so bad I ended up going in my pants one of the times. Thank God it was when DH was walking in and I didn't have to worry about what to do with the boys.

I had it about a week before I delivered for almost 24 hours. I called my OB and he said to stay hydrated and eat a bland diet, in case it turned into a stomach bug with vomiting.  I ended up being able to keep Gatorade down and boy did I drink a ton of it that day. So I took it as, me just having some viral thing and/or typical pregnancy symptom.  Although, I too was pretty constipated throughout my entire pregnancy.

A co-worker of mine was telling me that many women get diarrhea right before they are about to go into labor.  It's their bodies way of clearing out their system in preparation for birth.  I've heard that, but thought nothing of it as I was only 32 weeks and a few days. So in my head, I had plenty of time and was also hoping that I wouldn't be experiencing diarrhea for the next 8 weeks.  I don't need that much cleansing of my body to prepare me for birth. Fast forward a week and half later, on a Friday I got a low grade fever, diarrhea again and vomited once. I had to leave work early because I was so sick to my stomach. My water broke and I ended up going into labor that Sunday at 34w exactly.

So it could be your bodies way of getting you prepared, because I now believe that, that's what it was for me. Hoping it subsides for you regardless and you start to feel better.  :)

  • Ay carumba!

Yes, I have heard the same thing; that it can be indicative of labour ... but really, most anything can!

With it being coupled with some minor contractions and the lower back pain ... and that it arrived seemingly out of nowhere, I wouldn't be surprised if it holds true for me, too.

I delivered my DD at 38w so I was told to expect not to see 40w with this one. With her, though, I had a SROM and absolutely ZERO indicators leading up to it, so all these "new" sensations are rather curious!!
  • I had loose stool before my water broke with my first. It wasn't for 30+ hours to be fair. I also threw up once during early labor.

chamomile tea. coconut water. electrolyte drinks. just keep yourself hydrated and try and keep eating. bland and easy to digest foods (broth, soup, crackers, bananas, rice with steamed veg, etc).

good luck and I hope you feel better soon!
  • I've heard it is a sign of labor as well. Last week I had it for 3 days but no labor and no progress in effacement or dilation from last week so I can only assume it was some kind of bug?
  • @JuneyCleaves I also had the minor contractions and lower back pain all day, on the Sunday my water broke.

Even though my water broke, I had to be induced and baby didn't arrive until Wednesday of that week.  I ended up needing the Foley bulb and had spent 2 full days on Pitocin, prior to having the catheter put in.  Longest 3 days of my life.
  • It doesn't matter how bland the food is, it comes right out.

We're on hour 36 and I'm not sure how much more my bottom can take ... that, and I am SO hungry, but I am avoiding pretty well anything because of how I already know it will feel coming out.

@EC2016 - 3 days of this will ruin me! LOL! I have no idea if I have have made any progression as with a "normal" pregnancy here, they don't check until 40w, so I haven't been inspected.

@teachmegs817 - That's insane! Two full days on Pitocin?!
The morning my water broke with my daughter, I was induced a few hours later as well via Pitocin because I wasn't progressing. I went in at 1cm and over 12 hours later I was in the same position. I was hoping these bathroom activities were a sign of different things to come ... but you have ruined my hope for that, hahaha!
