Swollen feet remedies

So I've seen people complaining about swollen feet, but I haven't had much luck searching for remedies... other then less salt and feet up, has anyone found any other remedies that have really helped them?  I put my feet up as much as I can, am not eating anything with salt, and make sure I get up to walk as often as I can, but nothing is helping me.  I've resorted to wearing slippers because nothing fits.... even my flip flops are too tight.  I've spoken to my doctor - no fears of preeclampsia, so I'm thankful, but it is just becoming so uncomfortable and I still have about 6 weeks to go :(  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks :)

Re: Swollen feet remedies

  • I have had a problem with swelling in my feet and legs and what I found that works best for me is an Epsom salt bath every night. It has helped so much!!

  • the only thing i have had luck with is putting my feet up at night. and by up i mean i build a sky scraper of pillows. Epsom salt baths feel really nice, but i haven't had any luck. My feet, ankles, and calves have been swelling up a lot lately.
  • Compression socks first thing in the morning and leave them in until bed. It doesn't help a ton, but is better than days without them.

  • I second the compression socks! I got the ones that just go over calves (so if you wear leggings and flats you can't even see them). I think they help a little with the swelling, but overall I just feel like my legs are less "tired" on the days I wear them.
  • I was told to take lukewarm baths (with or without Epsom salts) - not sure it helped but might be worth a try for you!
  • my doctor said my swelling was too bad for just the socks, and i needed to get compression hose and to put them on the VERY first thing in the morning before even getting up.

Well... i got compression hose, and my man had to help me put them on.... this is my first day wearing them, so i'll see if it helps.  i'm still drinking a ton of water and attempting to get my feet up when i can at work...

Well they didn't work very well. i had to take them off this afternoon, i could tell i was swelling even with the compression hose, and it was just making it even more uncomfortable. my only hope is getting my feet up when i can, and aside from that, i guess just take it day by day.
  • Swelling is caused by the baby pressing on the veins which bring blood from your legs to the heart. Wear compression socks - better longer ones covering your calves- to prevent damage to the veins of your legs and have less problems later. Keep salt to a minimum. Try to sleep on your left side and I was recommended to stand on my elbows and knees a few times a day to relieve a pressure. A lot depends on your genes and it is kind of late already, but keeping weight gain to recommended amount may help too
  • Thankfully I havent had this problem only minor feet pain in earlier trimesters before I changed shoes. I make sure I watch my salt intake as well, drink 5 liters of water most days, I move around a good bit doing house chores but I also sit with my feet and legs elevated in my lazy boy a good bit during the day and sleep with them elevated on my body pillow at night. I also have only been wearing "granny shoes", winter boots (no heels) or sneakers outside of the house and well cushioned slippers to wear around the house.

  • 5 liters of water a day is too much, you can get water poisoning and kidney failure
