Telling your parents...

So my mom lives in CA, and I'm in IN. We haven't spoken in at least a year, and we haven't ever really had a strong relationship. I am 8w6d with my first. I am struggling with how to tell her. I don't want her to find out by my fb announcement in my 2nd trimester. Husband and best friend suggested having my 16 year old half sister (who I do have a good relationship with) tell her. Any ideas?

I wouldn't have a third party tell your mom. Have you not spoken to her in a year because of a falling out, or are you just not in touch? I'd send her a text or email or something simple with the news.

I am not close with my father and only speak to him a couple times a year, usually via text or email. I plan on telling him over the phone sometime at the end of my first trimester.

Send her a card that includes a copy of the ultrasound photo. That way it shows you being very thoughtful but if you don't feel like talking to her, it saves you the awkwardness of having to call her. Good luck!
