Movies

Anyone taken a trip to the movies and taken their LO? Good/bad idea?

We were thinking of going tomorrow, early to avoid it being too busy, occupying a seat in the back.

Re: Movies

  • We went last week with our LO! I was a little anxious because I was worried that he would cry but the only time he fussed was when my husband had me take him (DH's arm went numb while craddling him)..he basically slept the entire time.

We made sure to go to the 1130am showing which is usually when LO falls asleep for a nice nap. We also made sure to get there about 20min ahead of time so I could nurse him before the show started (I'm not quick getting him latched and he makes a bunch of noise so I wanted to avoid that).

We held him the whole time and since I was concerned about his ears we kept one pressed against us and I gently pressed a thick burp rag on the other one to help absorb the sound. After that we went and got some baby noise cancelling headphones, not sure if they are really needed but they make me feel better. I would have liked to have worn him in the theater but we have the Becco Gemini and the thick waist band makes it hard for me to sit comfortably in, if we had a more flexible carrier I think I would have done that.

Overall it was a good experience for us! Hope you have a good experience too.

  • We went Christmas Day! LO slept the entire time. You never realize how loud movies are until you have a newborn but she was content as can be. She woke up and nursed towards the end, but didn't make one peep! I would say go, it made me feel great to get out of the house and have a little fun with my new family.

Our theater has a family room that is separated by a glass window and a door. We've taken Z to 2, maybe 3 movies already and watched from there.

I just either BF or brought a bottle for him. He either ate or slept the whole time. I think a midday movie would be the perfect time to go with LO if we didn't have the family room option.

  • We did a double feature and the only issue we had was me having to pee in the middle of the movie lol

We went to the early show and sat in the front so if she did start to act crazy it disrupted a minimal amount of people. The best advice is to be prepared - feed and change the baby's diaper before the show, have the next feeding ready to go (breast or bottle), and if they start fussing you should be able to leave immediately without worrying that you left something behind.
  • If I go to a movie, that is my time. Definitely not taking the LO.
  • That sounds like a bad idea to me. We can barely watch a movie at home. I would be paranoid the whole time about disturbing other people.

Eh it depends on the baby. And the day. Most days Z would be perfectly fine in a movie theater if I timed it right with a feeding/nap. But I get that not all babies would do ok with it.

  • If it's family friendly or a parent s denning I don't see why not, but I wouldn't take my newborn to a regular show packed full of people, just seems a bit rude to expect everyone to be okay if your newborn is screaming, plus some movies can be quite loud.
  • Thanks for all of the input ladies!

We might try to see Joy at 3:00. Really want to see Star Wars or the new Leo movie but I'm afraid they'll be too loud for the LO. I'll def nurse right before and during if he wakes. If Jackson decides he wants to make some noise and it's causing a disturbance, We'll probably just leave.

Totally depends on the baby. I know mine actually prefers it to be loud and will sleep through or nurse through anything. I could wear DS into a theater and I bet no one would know he was even there.

When we went and LO got fussy I just took him out of the theater for a little while till he calmed down and fell back asleep...I think I only missed like 7 minutes of the film, I thought that if he got fussy we would just leave but I'm glad I tried to calm him first it totally worked out for us! My DH wants to go see Star Wars, I'll let you know how it goes/if it's super loud, although this time I'm going to put LO in his new noise cancelling headphones to help with the sound!

We took LO to Star Wars. I don't remember it being that bad loudness wise. But that also could have been because we were in the family room.

  • I don't feel comfortable taking him to the movies yet especially because my child likes to moan sometimes when nursing. Like OM NOM NOM type of stuff. Lol its cute when we're home but not in a quiet theater.
  • We haven't taken him out to the movies, however this one time we were watching a movie at home and towards the end I was thinking "I better change his diaper as soon as this movie is over." A couple minutes later I shift him and suddenly feel cold and wet. He had a slow leak blowout that I didn't notice was happening. Both him and I needed a wardrobe change and my husband didn't even pause the movie. So that's as close as we've had to a movie theater experience, haha. Honestly, he's so temperamental I probably won't be able to take him to movie theater for years.

I've been to 3 movies with Eleanor. I nursed her when she got fussy and she slept the rest. I drank a beer and enjoyed the hell out of myself. Go around their nap time and you will be fine.
